Carroll County Democratic Central Committee August Meeting, August 13, 2020 Minutes Meeting was held virtually and was called to order by Don West, Chair, at 7:05pm. Committee Members in Attendance Don West, Mitch Edelman, Katherine Shaw, Charles Harrison, Raquel Walsh, Kate Sanner, Anne Stoner, Corynne Courpas, Tom Scanlan, Anita Riley Other Attendees Sally Long, Ryan Koch, Justin Wilson, Mia Mason Guest Speakers * Mia Mason -- Democratic candidate for CD 1 -- next week, fundraising event, information coming out tomorrow, another event on 27th with Andrew Yang o Mia's event planners are willing to help clubs with events and fundraisers * Justin Wilson -- MDP field rep -- phone bank for Mia on Monday, August 17 1-4 o Other phone banks every Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday o Raising awareness on voting, phonebanks Monday - Saturday Chair's Report * Approval of agenda -- motion to approve by Mitch, vote unanimous * Announcement of Democratic ticket- Kamala Harris as Biden's running mate * MDP platform * MDP Days of Action * MDP Executive Committee meeting on July 28 o Convention -- starts next week -- you can buy access to the entire convention, should have received email * Finances and cash -- cash is challenging for Corynne, try to keep cash payments to a minimum, do not solicit cash payments * MDP -- Arinze, Communications Director, has left * Congratulations to Corynne, President of ARC * Compliance Training -- MDP -- good refresher for Corynne, we're in good shape, be careful with Federal campaigns * VotER -- started at a hospital in Boston, registering voters in the ER * LTEs -- very appreciative Secretary's Report Motion to approve report by Corynne; vote unanimous Treasurer's Report Current balance - $5,113.22. Motion to approve report by Kate; vote unanimous * Upcoming expenses - $1300 for Biden/Harris signs, $1500 for HQ * Still receiving money from signs Committee Reports * No reports submitted * MDP Platform Committee -- revising MD platform to reflect what's in DNC platform Old Business * HQ -- Sally sent document yesterday. We have about 14-15 volunteers. o Schedule -- Tuesday (11-4), Thursday (3-7), and Saturday (10-2) o Should we get a phone for HQ? People could call to request signs, volunteers could leave them outside o Cleaning -- will need to have cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, people are responsible for their own masks * Bathroom and kitchen facilities -- dedicated to volunteer use only o Have desk/table with plexi-glass shield -- Don will construct o Silent auction -- should we display items at HQ? Some items, take photos of anything valuable o Open -- Tuesday, September 8 o Anyone entering HQ will be required to wear a mask, will have signs up * Fall Fest -- canceled, Corynne received check back * Silent auction -- working on it o Using an online fundraising site, must bid online. They do charge a small fee, buyers may choose to cover fee o Send any donations to Anne, Raquel will load onto website o Items should be in by September 1 * Fundraising -- small, in-person events? Greg willing to donate food o Hesitant to host in-person social events * Hispanic and minority outreach -- Greg has come up with some ideas with Betsy, willing to contact Hispanic-owned businesses, offer interpretation services at HQ, Spanish language literature? Advertise HQ at Hispanic stores. Should reach out to Justin re: Spanish language literature. * Biden yard signs -- Corynne has ordered Biden/Harris signs, just waiting for approval on artwork New Business * Kate continues to send postcards to new Democrats who have moved to Carroll County o Almost out of postcards; motion to purchase additional postcards? Motion by Corynne, 2nd by Mitch, vote unanimous. * Victory Dinner -- May 20, 2021 * Fall Breakfast -- currently scheduled for October 17 -- vote in favor of canceling breakfast; vote unanimous to cancel. Don will let Anita know. * Health Equities Resource Communities Initiative Resolution --CCDCC members received an email, asking CCDCC to sign on; motion by Corynne for CCDCC to sign on, 2nd by Kate, vote unanimous * Nomination of New Officers -- Chuck and Anne will be the nominating committee. At September's meeting, they will provide a slate of officers, in accordance with our by-laws. Nominations can also be made from the floor. * Town Hall -- Mia's campaign manager would like us to hold a virtual town hall meeting, looking at September 3 * Table -- how to support our candidates.
