Carroll County Democratic Central Committee July Meeting, July 9, 2020 Minutes Meeting was held via Zoom and was called to order by Don West, Chair, at 7:00pm. Committee Members in Attendance Don West, Mitch Edelman, Katherine Shaw, Charles Harrison, Raquel Walsh, Kate Sanner, Corynne Courpas, Anita Riley, Tom Scanlan, Greg Hutsell Other Attendees Justin Wilson, MDP Chair's Report * Approval of agenda -- motion by Corynne: vote unanimous * MDP Platform -- today is the last day for comments * MDP Full Meeting -- June 20, went very well, elected next DNC representatives * Western MD Democratic Summit -- also went well, please send Don any constructive comments * Nelson Dorsey -- phone call, he owns agricultural properties South of Westminster, offered to make properties available for political signs * Encourage letters to the editors, columns in the paper * Justin Wilson -- MDP has begun out of state calls, promote primary, drive up turnout, training sessions are available half an hour before shifts at 10am, 1pm, 4pm. Phone calls are next best to canvassing. Secretary's Report Motion to approve report by Corynne; vote unanimous Treasurer's Report Current balance - $3,369.34. Motion to approve report by Tom; vote unanimous Committee Reports * MDP Financial Oversight Committee -- hard at work, will hear about final budget proposal at Executive meeting. * MDP Platform Committee -- comments due tonight, hope to process comments and get into document by COB tomorrow. Will then go to DNC. Old Business * Western MD Summit -- get feedback to Don o Next year scheduled for April 30 and May 1 * Fall Fest -- check was cashed, skeptical that it will still take place, Corynne will let us know if anything changes * Victory Dinner -- motion to cancel dinner and leave deposit with Martin's Westminster by Charles; vote unanimous o Anita will book a date for next May * Fundraising alternatives? Greg and Anne willing to host events, difficulty finding public space. o Tom will reach out to Anne o Possibly look to September o Farm Museum? Union Mills pavilion? * Biden yard signs -- we continue to get requests New Business * BLM protests -- still going on throughout the county, let Mark and Tom mention on their outreaches o Tom will reach out to Henry Reiff for more info * How do we support candidates in November? o BOE, Judges, Jamie Raskin, Mia Mason o Will need to get creative, since money is tight o Work with other CD1 DCCs to coordinate efforts for Mia's campaign o We can publicly support Laura Morton * Headquarters -- Corynne met with someone regarding an in-person HQ, big space, accessible, on Bond Street, behind Rocksalt's new carry out, trying to get for $2,000 total o Concerns over funds, is money better spent on direct voter outreach? Will we get enough volunteers to staff? o Pros -- will generate excitement, serve almost as a billboard in Westminster, might be able to get for $1,500 o Motion to allow Corynne to make an offer no more than $2,000 by Anita, 2nd by Tom; 8 yays, 2 nays, motion passes * Fall Breakfast -- should we reach out to Best Western? They will ask for about $300 deposit to book a date. Anita will check with them. * Voter registration -- how do we do that right now? o League of Women Voters having registration drives o We have a standing invitation to Carroll Community College in September for voter registration -- Mitch will reach out * Next meeting location -- virtual or try outdoors meeting? o August 13 at 7:00 pm -- prefer virtual Meeting adjourned at 8:28pm.
