Carroll County Democratic Central Committee Meeting Minutes June 14, 2018 Meeting was held in the large Meeting Room of the Westminster Branch of the CCPL and was called to order by Don West, Chair, at 7:00 pm. Committee members in attendance Don West, Mitch Edelman, Corynne Courpas, Frank Rammes, Charles Harrison, Tom Scanlan, Dorothy Scanlan, Anita Riley, Zach Hands, Anne Stoner Other attendees MD State Party: Noah Stewart, Regional Field Director Candidates: Paul Johnson, Raquel Walsh, Kate Sanner, Catherine Shaw, Paul Johnson Guests: Lisa Blevins, Chris Medden, Carol McCullough, Larry Wood, Ruthanne Wood, Jim Cohen, Pam Zappardino Chair's Report It's been a busy month with the Victory dinner, CD1 Forum, state party meeting, and summer of resistance and renewal. Washington and Frederick counties both had their dinners in May. Secretary's Report Motion to approve report by Anita R., 2nd by Zach H.; vote unanimous. Treasurer's Report Treasurer's report was sent out via email to the members and shows a current balance of $12,755.37. Motion to approve report by Frank R., 2nd by Charles H .; vote unanimous. Club Reports Carroll County Democratic Club: Elected new officers. Kate Sanner has agreed to be Vice President of the club. Next event will be the annual picnic on July 29 at the Silver Run/Union Mills Lions Club park from 1-5pm. Should be some candidates there. Next meeting will be September 10. October meeting will host Board of Education candidates. Sign rally the night before the election. December holiday party. South Carroll Democratic Club: No report Young Dems: No report Interns: Zach went to the WHS club but not much response. VOCAL: At the last meeting, discussion was about the finance reports that were collected and put into charts. Very enlightening information. Emphasized that there was no partisan agenda in mind. Carroll CAN: Susan Turnbaugh spoke at the last meeting. She is the Lt. Gov. candidate with Ben Jealous. Committee Reports Local Politics: Republican Central Committee has politicized the Board of Ed race. Infighting/factions focused on getting rid of certain candidates. Annapolis: No report. State Bylaws: Succession-passed; Appointment of an executive director-passed; Filling vacancies-passed. Communications: Eblasts regarding candidate events-yes. VAN- No report LGBTQ+--Baltimore Pride is this weekend. There will be a Pride event in Westminster on Saturday, July 7. Hours are 12-5. Drag show sponsored by PFLAG is from 8-11 at St. Paul's. Motion made to have a table at the event and to sponsor PFLAG by Corynne C. Seconded and passed. Events Western MD Democratic Summit: Another very successful event. Victory dinner: It was a great success. 118 dinners served. About 125 people there. Made $3,300 on the program. Auction netted $1,400. Netted $2,200 on the tickets. Doubled our treasury. CD1 Forum: Very successful; good attendance. Video disappeared, unfortunately. Fall Breakfast: Anita is working on this. Old Business MDP Days of Action: About a dozen people in attendance. 327 calls; five actual contacts made. Door knocking; talked to 3 people. Check for $500 received today from State Party. New Business Headquarters: potential location found, but agent has been unhelpful. If a location is located, committee gives permission for Corynne to secure the location. Pride Day: Yes, we will have a table at this event. Voter Registration: will be continued in September Announcements The next regular meeting for the CCDCC will be Thursday, July 12, starting at 7:00pm, at the Westminster library.
