Carroll County Democratic Central Committee Meeting Minutes January 11, 2018 Meeting was held in the Large Meeting Room of the Westminster Branch of the CCPL and was called to order by Don West, Chair, at 7:00 pm. Committee members in attendance Don West, Mitch Edelman, Corynne Courpas, Anita Riley, Frank Rammes, Charles Harrison, Tom Scanlan, Dorothy Scanlan Other attendees Kara Adamcik, Lily Gavin (interns) Guest: Eva Lewis from State Party- time to gear up for 2018 elections. Want to win all 24 jurisdictions. Recruit, canvass, phone banking. Tracking program to follow Hogan and others. Chair's Report Carroll Can meets this Sunday at 1:30 at the Eldersburg library. Don is presenting about the 2018 elections. Executive meeting was November 20th. Candidate filing is February 27. Secretary's Report Motion to approve report by Frank R., 2nd by Mitch E.; vote unanimous. Treasurer's Report Treasurer's report was sent out via email to the members and shows a current balance of $7,826.89. Bill to host website is $700. Motion to approve report by Anita R., 2nd by Frank R.; vote unanimous. Club Reports Carroll County Democratic Club: next meeting is in March. Thinking of inviting filed candidates. April's speaker is Tim Hickman who is coming with copies of his book. May not have a May meeting in lieu of a potential candidate forum. South Carroll Democratic Club: No report Young Dems: No report Committee Reports VOCAL: hosted an opioid session which was very successful. They are also still focused on the ethics issue. Carroll CAN: Local Politics: Communications: We are over 1,000 ''likes'' on FB. Fabian will give us messages to post on Twitter. VAN: No update. Old Business Western MD PAC: No update. The summit is still on schedule for April 20th and 21st. they are asking that we will be table sponsors. $700-full page ad and eight tickets. Motion made and carried to purchase a table. Victory dinner: May 10, 2018. Time to start publicizing. Holiday dinner: profits to go to club. Hopefully we can give another scholarship this year. Motion made and approved unanimously. New Business Candidate filings: should every spot have a candidate? We still need to fill some slots, especially commissioner and state legislature. The chair and treasurer of a central committee cannot run for another office. We cannot share VAN with candidates. They must purchase access to it themselves. The cost is $2,500. Martin Luther King event: NAACP breakfast Saturday January 27. Resistance and Renewal outreach: only our interns did the work. Very few contacts were made. Many of the phone numbers in VAN did not work. Candidate Recruitment & Training: Date is Saturday February 17th from 9-1 in the large room of the Westminster library. Corynne, Anita, Frank, and Tom are the sub-committee. Campaign finance, existing candidates, VAN preview, marketing & social media, fundraising, demographics & voter turnout, dealing with endorsements, platforms to help candidates. Perhaps do two workshops, one pre-filing deadline and another more nuts and bolts for declared candidates. We should get refreshments. CD 1 Forum: Tentative plans: Finksburg library. Invite Baltimore County voters. Announcements The next regular meeting for the CCDCC will be Thursday, February 8, starting at 7:00 pm, at the Finksburg Library. Meeting adjourned at 8:35pm.
