Minutes of the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee May 13, 2017 In attendance: Don West, Frank Rammes, Tom Scanlan, Joan McGrath, Anita Riley, Corynne Courpas, Dorothy Scanlan, Mitch Edelman, Anne Stoner Interns: Ryan Koch, Henry Snurr, Kristen Janeczek, Kara Adamcik Guests: Muri Dueppen, VOCAL (the activist group, Voices of the Center and Left) Keith Prestley, Tyler Redenbaugh of the Maryland Coordinated Campaign The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by Don West. Pledge of Allegiance Chair's Report Members of the CCDCC and community at large held a rally in conjunction with a visit to the county by Governor Hogan. At the State Party meeting Kathleen Matthews was voted in as permanent State Party chair. We are hoping for a good turnout for our movie sponsorship of ''Lincoln'' on May 19th. Secretary's Report The April minutes were approved. Anita moved to approve; 2nd by Frank. Treasurer's Report The April Treasurer's Report was approved. The current balance in our checking account is $7,603.51. Tom moved to approve; 2nd by Joan. Maryland Combined Campaign Keith Prestley and Tyler Redenbaugh of the Maryland Coordinated Campaign Gave a presentation on voter demographics in state elections back through 2012. Activist Groups VOCAL The steering committee is still hashing out the goals/focus of the group. They will be meeting on Tuesday May 23rd to work on the details. The next full meeting is tentatively scheduled for Saturday June 3rd. Carroll CAN The next meeting of Carroll CAN will be this Saturday May 13 at the Eldersburg library @ 3:30. The group is organizing a bus to the LGBTQ march on June 11th. Carroll CAN's June meeting will be June 25th from 3-5pm at the Westminster library. Club Reports CC Dems: Dave Scott was the speaker at the club's May meeting. His topic was the importance of NATO. He is a former employee of NATO. Ryan Koch was presented the club scholarship award. The meeting was well attended. Frank reminded about the July 30th picnic and suggested that gubernatorial candidates be invited. It was noted that the speakers at the April meeting, Joe Dominick and Ben Yingling, won their respective races: mayor and town council (city of Westminster). South Carroll Club: First meeting will be May 17, 7pm at the South Carroll Community & Senior Center. Muri Dueppen, of VOCAL, will speak. Becky Maurio of Stand for Justice will also speak. The goal is to revive the club. Young Dems: A draft of the club's constitution has been sent to the state. Subcommittees Local Politics: There was a lot of buzz on Justin Ready's Facebook page due to his characterizing the Dem's Hogan rally as a ''protest''. Annapolis: No report Communications: No new updates other than keep doing what we've been doing. We are getting close to have 1,000 ''likes'' on our Facebook page. VAN: No report LGBTQ: There are a number of Pride parades scheduled: the DC Pride parade on June 10th; Equality march on June 11th; and the Baltimore Pride parade on June 17th. PFLAG is sponsoring ''Positive Voices'', a men's group which has been performing for over two decades. The concert will be on May 21st at 5pm @ St. Paul's UCC. Interns: We have two new interns: Kristen Janeczek and Kara Adamcik. Events Victory Dinner: The dinner was a success. Attendance was up, and a number of dignitaries were in attendance including Jamie Raskin, Kathleen Matthews, Kevin Kamenetz, and We made a profit of almost $3,200 on the program alone. The raffle brought in $1,700 and the silent auction brought in $900 for a total profit of $5,100. October breakfast: We will start planning for this—will look into having Elijah Cummings as speaker. The movie, ''Lincoln'': Friday, May 19 at the Carroll County Arts Center; two showings – 1pm & 7:30pm Old Business Two Year Plan: Tabled. Bylaws: Tabled. Possibly touch base with the election board.
