July 13, 2017 CCDCC meeting notes Attendees: Corynne Courpas, Mitch Edelman, Zach Hands, Charles Harrison, Joan McGrath, Frank Rammes, Ann Riley, Anne Stoner, Don West, members. Lily, Katy - Interns Visitors: Ellen Marble, Christian Orr Discussion: Recent visits of Baltimore Mayor Pugh and Senator Cardin to Carroll County - the CCDCC was not given advance notice of either visit. Don stated that if these visits were for official business, it would not be appropriate to notify the CCDCC; to do so would have allowed for interpretation of visits as campaigning. June minutes and treasurer's report were approved by unanimous consent. Current balance is $7587.19. Finances may allow Central Committee to open headquarters for 2018 election. Chair's Report: The Frederick Gala was attended by about 250 people, with Senator Klobuchar keynote speaker and all announced gubernatorial candidates in attendance. The 2018 Carroll County DVD will be held just prior to the primary, which should boost attendance. The VOCAL picnic will be held 7/23 from 3-7 PM at King's Pavilion Park. It is open to all. Carroll Can will meet on 7/16, from 3-5 PM, at Westminster Public Library Club Reports: Frank Rammes announced that CCDEMS picnic will be held on 7/30 at Lions' Pavilion, and some candidates are expected to attend. Future speakers at meetings: Dr. Mona Becker is scheduled to speak at October meeting. Anne will recruit a speaker from LGBTQ+ community. Ellen Marble was introduced as CCDEMS recording secretary. Anita Riley announced South Carroll Dems will meet on 8/13 at 7PM. She mentioned that the club's future is at risk, because of small membership. Community: School funding, closings will persist as issues into 2018. Other: We were urged to write letters to the editor to represent our positions on local issues. Facebook traffic has been down over the last month. Upcoming Fund-Raising event for CCDCC: we will hold our annual fund-raising breakfast in October. There will be a wrap-up meeting for the Western Maryland PAC at end of July. Don will attend. Next year, the Western Md. PAC will again meet at Rocky Gap. Corynne started a sign-up sheet for Fall Fest, to be held weekend of 9/23. Christian Orr presented for discussion the 4-year strategic plan, which met with general approval. Christian and Mitch will do cleanup and present revised draft for August meeting. LGBTQ+: Anne announced that there is a need to reorganize LGBTQ+ representation on diversity council Candidate Recruitment: Joan reported that she would like budget for printing, social media for candidate recruitment. She used demographic information from previous CCDCC presentation to suggest holding training sessions in 3 locations. Discussion followed. Consensus of committee was to work on recruitment, and we can structure training after we have better idea of what candidates we may have to work with and support. Zach presented his analysis of most vulnerable county commissioners. He sees D3, D4 as most vulnerable seats, based on possible open seat in D4, and D3 having higher proportion of Dem voters than rest of the county. He also asked for specific questions for canvassing during Summer of Resistance. Meeting adjourned
