Minutes of the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee November 10, 2016 In attendance: Don West, Corynne Courpas, Mitch Edelman, Frank Rammes, Dorothy Scanlan, Tom Scanlan, Zach Hands The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by Don West. Pledge of Allegiance Chair's Report Our election events went well, and we can be proud of our efforts. The state party executive meeting was mostly spent reviewing the collected statistics of the efforts of the combined campaign. Regarding our poll watching efforts, no concerns were noted. Secretary's Report The October minutes were approved. Treasurer's Report There is a balance of $2,820.39 in our checking account. The Treasurer's report was approved. Club Reports CC Dems: Tabled. South Carroll Club: Tabled. Committee Reports Headquarters: We will put together a list of volunteers who put a lot of time in helping at HQ. Local Politics: The closed schools were officially handed over to the county today. The new Board of Education members are Donna Sivigny and Marsha Herbert, both of whom were actively supported by the county's Republican Party. The Combined Education Committee had what turned out to be its last meeting. Very little was accomplished; only one actual recommendation was made, which was to fund another audit. Communications: Our headquarters distributed more than 1,000 signs and 450 buttons. We will keep the eblasts going - just not as many. Our Facebook page has almost twice as many ''likes'' as the Carroll County Republican Central Committee page. Now that the election is over, we will cut back on the number of posts. The most important thing is we need to keep people involved. Should we a do a survey? A live blog? Geofilters are becoming popular; Zach will bring back a report about what they are and how they work. We need to keep building our Twitter following. VAN: A lot of the information in VAN is outdated and/or useless. People do not have land lines anymore, nor do they answer their phones. Getting out and knocking on doors still is the best way to go. It would be nice if VAN had a field for email addresses. It was noted that VAN relies on its users to update. Interns: Tabled. Old Business Election Events: recap Charter: the effort has ''gone down in flames''. It has been turned over to a long-range planning committee - a committee that has never met. We would need 6,000 signatures to get it on the ballot. There are about 121,000 registered voters in Carroll County. NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet: we had a great presence at this event. The MLK breakfast is in January. Holiday gathering: Sign up for your choice of meals on the My Sign-Up page. We will ask Neil Ridgely to be the speaker. New Business HQ wrap-up: We will break down HQ on Saturday. We had a truly great location. Sponsor a movie: It costs $250 to sponsor a movie at the Carroll Arts Center. Brainstorm movie ideas. Early voting: Carroll County needs more early voting sites. It would only cost $4,000 for one additional site. If a county has 125,000 registered voters, three sites are recommended. Candidate recruitment: Tabled. The meeting adjourned at 9:00pm. Our next meeting will be our holiday dinner on December 8, 2016. The first meeting of the new year will be January 12, 2017. Respectfully submitted, Dorothy Scanlan Recording Secretary, CCDCC
