Anita and Corynne are going. Washington JJ: Anita attended in Don’s place. The respective central committees sponsored ads in each other’s dinner programs. Democratic Victory Dinner: Chris Van Hollen has confirmed that he will attend. Jamie Raskin and Joe Werner are also confirmed. State party meeting—most everyone is going. General election-we will reserve Johansson’s for election night. Gender balance—we have two prospective members who will take care of this issue: Anne Stoner and Sadie Allgeier. We have to be gender balanced if Maryland is to have seats at the convention. Corynne made a motion to accept the two female applicants; Frank seconded; approval was unanimous. Secretary’s Report The April minutes were approved with no changes. Treasurer’s Report There is a balance of $5,075.46 in our checking account. Treasurer’s report was approved. Club Reports CC Dems: The annual picnic will be July 17th at the Silver Run/Union Mills park. The club will not meet again until September. Everyone will need to sign up to bring a dish to share. Club membership is required to attend the picnic. The planned speaker for the May meeting could not make so will be asked to speak at the September meeting. The club plans to ask Board of Education candidates to speak at the October meeting. The club will host a sign rally the night before the election. Perhaps Kevin Kamenetz could be considered to speak at a meeting. South Carroll Club: no report Committee Reports Local Politics: no report. Annapolis: no report, but as a result of following education threads on social media an “expose” on Delegate Susan Krebs’ positions was written and posted/distributed. Communications: Please send website updates to Don. LTEs are needed. Neil is writing an editorial about the so-called “Clean Chesapeake Coalition”. Keep commenting on the CCTimes editorials. Send out one more eblast promoting the dinner. Grassroots/Outreach: The Facebook ad campaign got good traffic. Followers seem to especially love posts about local issues. Perhaps an intern could start up a Twitter feed. Events Democratic Victory dinner: The program is at the printers. Brian Frosh may attend. The Trump piñata will be sold via live auction. Old Business Candidate training session-shall we do this again for 2018 candidates? Candidate forum-do we want to get involved in another forum? Intern: Katherine has written a detailed analysis of Carroll County politics. Charter: There are two ways charter can move forward. The commissioners can vote (3 to 2) to seat a charter board. The second way is to put it to a special ballot with 20% of registered voters needed to approve. The movement looks promising; clearly the best path to take is to have the commissioners vote to seat a board. Headquarters: We have a potential excellent location on Main Street. Details need to be ironed out. New Business Fall breakfast: Tabled. Headquarters: To be discussed after the Victory dinner. Officer elections: Vote will be in the fall. Candidate recruitment: It is not too soon to start working on this. The meeting adjourned at 8:30. Our next meeting will be June 9th. Laura O’Callaghan and Katherine Berry from the Carroll County Board of Elections will be in attendance. Respectfully submitted, Dorothy Scanlan Recording Secretary, CCDCC
