Minutes of the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee March 10, 2016 In attendance: Don West, Anita Riley, Corynne Courpas, Mitch Edelman, Frank Rammes, Charles Harrison, Dorothy Scanlan. The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by Don West. Pledge of Allegiance Chair’s Report The Congressional District 8 was successful beyond our expectations. It was a standing room only crowd, and the questions were excellent. The intent is to carry this momentum forward to the Democratic Victory dinner. Yvette Lewis and Greg Pecoraro are running for DNC seats. State party executive council meeting (Feb 25): State party may change the date of the next full state party meeting which is on Preakness day. It may be held near Baltimore. Secretary’s Report One correction needs to be made to the February minutes, so a motion to accept was tabled until the next meeting. In addition, two members did not receive the minutes. Treasurer’s Report The balance in our checking account is $2,505.08. Frank Rammes moved to accept the Treasurer’s report; Anita Riley seconded. Passed unanimously. Club Reports CC Dems: three of the five candidates for Board of Education have confirmed that they will attend the next meeting. South Carroll Club: A post was made on the club’s Facebook page asking for input regarding the future of the club. There was not a single response. Anita wants to keep it going. She thinks she gets a better response using snail mail, so she will try that one more time. Committee Reports Local Politics: Tabled. Annapolis: Haven Shoemaker has sponsored a ridiculous bill calling for term limits on board of education members. Communications: Corynne wrote an LTE, Mitch continues with his colums and Eblasts to publicize events are going out regularly. VAN: Zach got trained a couple of weeks ago. He worked to create walk lists—roughly 50 of them—which he will bring to the next meeting. Events Democratic Victory dinner: The dinner is set for May 19th. We still are in need of a keynote speaker. Those attending the Rural Maryland summit will hopefully make some contacts. A couple of names were suggested: Wes Moore and Thomas Schaller. However, since it is a presidential election year, it may be better to have a politician. Jim Ireton will be attending. There was a discussion about whether to have music and how much we are willing to pay for it. We need to sell ads for the program, and we need to solicit silent auction items. Old Business Intern: We have two other potential interns. Zach can forward their resumes to Mitch for review. Zach also has a few other resumes he needs to look at and will do so in the next couple of weeks. He will then forward those to Mitch. It was suggested that the intern candidates be invited to the dinner. We would like to accept three new interns. Voter Registration at CCC: 34 people were registered. Zach will be doing a voter registration drive on the UMBC campus. Charter: There is “some movement” in that direction. If three of the commissioners support the idea, then a charter board is established to create the charter document. New Business The CMC wants to partner with us for future events. Anita, Corynne, and Frank are attending the Frederick JJ dinner. Discussion about a headquarters has been tabled until after the DV dinner. The potential expense is a factor. Should we consider having a HQ in the South Carroll area? The meeting adjourned at 9:00. Respectfully submitted, Dorothy Scanlan Recording Secretary, CCDCC
