Treasurer’s Report There is a balance of $6,856.81 in our checking account. Treasurer’s report was approved. Club Reports CC Dems: Approximately 30 people attended the picnic. Donna Sivigny, one of the Board of Education candidates, and representatives from Jamie Raskin’s campaign attended. The meeting on September 12 will feature speaker Angela Gustus, Executive Director of the Carroll County HSP. October’s meeting will feature the Board of Education candidates. So far three of the four are confirmed: Marsha Herbert, Julie Kingsley, and Donna Sivigny. South Carroll Club: No report. Committee Reports Local Politics: The current controversy is what to do with the now-empty schools. No plans had been made despite the fact that the Commissioners had a year to figure this out. There will be a meeting on August 20th hosted by Commissioner Dick Weaver. Perhaps some information will come to light at this meeting. Central Office will probably not move to the former New Windsor Middle School. Annapolis: the State party seems to be stepping up its attacks on Hogan. Communications: LTEs have been written. There was a reminder that there might be a cut-off date for letters supporting candidates. We need letters in support of VanHollen and Raskin as well as Clinton. Our Facebook page was hacked—but it increased our traffic. We are getting one or two new followers on Twitter every day. VAN: Don will forward Tyler’s emails to Dorothy and Mitch. Interns: Kathy O’Donnell’s internship is coming to an end. She has been faithfully submitting analyses on a variety of topics. She will write one more report for us. We are grateful for her contribution—she is a fine writer and her position papers were astute. Western MD PAC: no report. ASDC: no report. LGBTQ: no report. Events On October 6 there will be Democrat v Republican softball game sponsored by Kohn Advertising. The game will be held at the Westminster playground and will start at 6pm. Fallfest: HQ will be open Friday night for Midnight Madness. Fall breakfast: It is scheduled for October 8th from 9-11. Anita is working on Old Business Charter: the anti-charter activists came to the last commissioner meeting. It’s important that those of us who support charter and are able to attend a commissioner meeting do so. There is an online poll on the Carroll County Times website asking people to vote in favor or opposition to charter. Congressional Candidate forum: Ryan will contact Raskin’s people. Don will ask Karen Leatherwood, a member of the Carroll County Republican Central Committee, to contact Cox to see if he is interested. Don contacted the Community Media Center. They would like to host and broadcast the forum. Trifold: Dorothy will update and send to Anita for union printing. We will purchase 200 or 250, depending on the price point. Recognition of former Board of Elections members: we will invite the three former members of the Board of Elections to the fall breakfast free of charge and recognize their contribution. New Business Headquarters: We are open limited hours now. We need a coordinator. Mitch will be responsible for scheduling. Corynne will handle issues regarding the facility. Everyone has keys now. For our Grand Opening on September 10th we will have hot dogs and other snacks. Everyone will contribute something. We will also have pastries from JeannieBird bakery. Signs: no one in Maryland has Clinton signs yet. Frederick County placed their own order. We will do the same. Election Day Food Drive: there is a box in HQ now. CCDCC Officer Elections: Don appointed to the nominating committee Tom, Joan, and Sadie with Tom as chair. The committee will come to the next meeting with the names of those who have agreed to be considered for the offices. At least four names will be submitted for four offices. A non-secret ballot will be held in October. New officers will be installed in November. Candidate recruitment: It is not too soon to start talking to people about running for local and state office in 2018. The meeting adjourned at 9:00pm. Our next meeting will be September 8, 2016. Respectfully submitted, Dorothy Scanlan Recording Secretary, CCDCC
