From the Carroll County Democratic Club

MINUTES from the Sept. 11, 2017 Meeting:

Carroll County Democratic Club Minutes for Sept. 11, 2017

The club met at Johansson’s in Westminster. The meeting was

called to order at a few minutes past 7:00 by the club’s

President, Frank Rammes.

We had two guests, James Ebersole from the Kamenetz campaign, and
our scheduled speaker, Anne Stoner. The guests spoke before the business meeting.

James E. spoke first about Kamenetz’ possible campaign, and that he’s here to learn about us and tell us about Kevin Kamenetz (possible candidate for governor). Son of Paul Ebersole, state delegate. PFLAG advocate.

Anne Stoner spoke on LGBTQ+ issues.
Her son was at North Carroll HS. Top/down tolerance at that school.
She joined PFLAG because of the schools’ connection with the BSA.
Progress is being made in the schools.
A year ago her son became a transgender woman and is very happy.
She also discussed the terms sex, gender, gender identity, gender expression, and how we either fit in or don’t fit in.Cis-gender means your assigned gender matches your “equipment”, trans-gender means your assigned gender doesn’t match.
Then there’s sexual orientation which is yet one more thing.
The individual gets to choose. Then there’s preferred pronouns, and preferred adjectives.
Zir instead of Her, or Hir instead of Her… In some circles, you may need to ask “what are your preferred pronouns?”
Also, “Mx”, pronounced “mix”. (Non-gender-specific)
How be an ally: Meetings, ask questions, get conversation going.
“I am who I say I am.” Respect what people say for themselves.
People shared their personal stories and experiences.
Be an advocate.

Business meeting:

* Prior minutes not presented.

* Treasurer: the Treasurer’s report was presented and approved.

Other items:
* Next meeting (October) Mona Becker will be speaking on the. Environment.
* November: FrankR is working on speakers
* December: Annual Holiday Dinner at Buttersburg, 2nd Thursday, 12/14.
There will be no regular club meeting in December, because of the Holiday Dinner.
* Corynne talks about FallFest and asked people to come and help.
* The CCDCC meeting is this Thursday, 9/14.
* Frank Baylor announced that FLCC will be showing “An Inconvenient Sequel” on the
first Friday in January, 2018.

The meeting was adjourned by Frank Rammes at 8:10pm.

The next meeting will be October 2, 7pm at Johansson’s.

Minutes prepared by Mark Wilson, Treasurer.
