Note from the Chair: Upcoming movies with FLICC! (NEW)
From CCDCC Chair Don West:
Join us at the Carroll Arts Center for one of our upcoming summertime films from Film Lovers In Carroll County (FLICC). You can even get a refreshing adult beverage or try one of the new gourmet slushies to cool off a bit!
-
Coming up fast is The World’s Fastest Indian on Friday July 26th (as always two showings at 1 and 7:30pm), proudly sponsored by Harley Davidson of Baltimore (that’s an Indian motorcycle). This film should be a good one, starring Anthony Hopkins in this true story of New Zealander Burt Munro who rebuilds a classic 1920 Indian motorcycle and sets off to pursue an absolutely mad dream – to set the land speed world record at Utah’s Bonneville Salt Flats in 1967!
-
Then we will screen the 1949 drama The Third Man, starring Orson Welles, on Friday, August 9th (again, two showings at 1 and 7:30pm). This classic, sponsored by Lisa and John Kelly in memory of Bob Miller, their uncle and movie lover, is not to be missed….
-
And… mark your calendars now: on Friday, September 20th, we will be screening Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, first on the big screen 50 years ago (just seems like yesterday)! This trip down memory lane is brought to you by those leftists at the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee!
As always, we recommend purchasing your tickets ahead of time online:

The Shepherd’s Staff Back-To-School Program Fundraising Campaign
Last summer, we put out an email asking you to contribute to the CC Democratic Club’s fundraising for The Shepherd’s Staff Back-to-School Program. And thanks to all of you who contributed, we were able to raise $400.00 on very short notice…in the middle of summer!
Because of the generosity of Democratic Club members, The Shepherd’s Staff was able to provide 36 children in Carroll County with vouchers to purchase new shoes for the new school year.
And we would love to do it again…this time with more notice and more time to contribute, so we can provide even more new shoes vouchers for children for the start of the 2019-2020 school year!
The Shepherd’s Staff (TSS) of Carroll County has a wonderful Back-To-School Program that provides children with school supplies, clothing, and shoes. Last year, they served over 1,350 students.
Though many organizations donate actual school supplies likes notebooks, crayons, pencils and binders, TSS has told me that a monetary donation would help them the most. Their space is very limited right now and a monetary donation would allow them to provide vouchers for shoes for Pre-K through High School students.
Please give what you can…any size donation would be appreciated and used for maximum good by The Shepherd’s Staff (TSS) of Carroll County’s Back-To-School Program.
Make your checks out to “CC Dem Club/Shepherd’s Staff” and mail to:
Mark Wilson
1699 King Richard Road
Eldersburg, MD 21784
Please send donations by August 9, 2019.
A check for the total donations will be taken to The Shepherd’s Staff. TSS will post about the donation on their Facebook page and the Club will also include the news of the donation in a press release to the Carroll County Times and on social media posts.
Your caring and generosity are much appreciated.
An invitation from Kate
Calling all patriots! Have you heard of Postcards to Voters?
“Postcards to Voters are friendly, handwritten reminders from volunteers to targeted voters giving Democrats a winning edge in close, key races coast to coast.
What started on March 11, 2017 with sharing 5 addresses apiece to 5 volunteers on Facebook so that they could mail postcards to voters in Jon Ossoff’s race grew in one month to 1,200+ volunteers nationwide and over 51,000 postcards mailed.
Now, we consist of over 61,000+ volunteers in every state (including Alaska and Hawaii) who have written close to 4 million postcards to voters in over 162 key, close elections.”
To learn how you can write individually from home, go to: https://postcardstovoters.org/volunteer/
Or you can attend a great postcard writing group that meets weekly at The Shops at Kenilworth in Towson every Thursday from 10 AM – 12 Noon. I just started attending on July 4th and plan on going frequently. (I have written PTV from home for the Midterms.). The organizer of the group, Jill, an amazing activist whom I met 2 ½ years ago, asked me to extend an invitation to all Democratic Club members to come write with them. This is a powerhouse group of postcard writers but they are also welcoming and enthusiastic. I hope you can come!
