Mail-In Ballot Request Link

Here is a link to the MD State Board of Elections website to request a mail-in ballot for November:

https://voterservices.elections.maryland.gov/OnlineVoterRegistration/InstructionsStep1?fbclid=IwAR3TBcQ0l7Rc_Q6OGvtwBu60oMh6SHU2vWvpEgssIu2vcMBh_OxkQYqxAAY

Be aware, you will need a MD Driver’s License or similar MD ID.  It is a bit cumbersome with something like 10 or 11 steps, and it can be a bit confusing because it is also used for registering to vote.  Stay with it, and you’ll be fine.

Maintain your personal safety while exercising your right to vote!
(Thanks to Don West for this)

National March for Black Lives

Saturday, August 1, 2020, Noon-3 at the Westminster City Hall. See details below.

Note from the President

Dear friends,

I hope this finds you all doing well.

I am looking forward to attending the Carroll Citizens for Racial Equality Bridging the Gap Conference titled “MY COUNTRY ‘TIS OF THEE?” and I hope you will join me for this Virtual Conference via Zoom on Thursday, August 6th from 10AM – 12PM.

The CCRE Conference keynote speaker and facilitator will be Dr. Danice Brown, Associate Professor & Coordinator of Clinical Training, Psychology at Towson University.

Dr. Brown will be presenting about othering in America and will address the current climate regarding racial justice in our country. Questions and discussion will follow the presentation.

Register for the conference on CCRE’s website at https://www.carrollcitizensforracialequality.org/

(By the way, if you need CEUs for your license renewal, two (2) CEUs will be available to social workers and licensed counselors by the Social Work Department of McDaniel College for a fee of $10.)

I recently ran across a quote by the late Rep. Barbara Jordan from her 1976 Democratic National Convention Keynote Address that rings true now more than ever:
“A nation is formed by the willingness of each of us to share in the responsibility for upholding The Common Good. A government is invigorated when each one of us is willing to participate in shaping the future of this nation. In this election year, we must define the “Common Good” and begin again to shape a common future. Let each person do his or her part.”
– Rep. Barbara Jordan

In these times of great challenge, in this election year of the utmost importance and consequence, and in this time when “we” must be more important than “me”, let each of us do our part.

Take care, stay involved, and stay well.

Kate Sanner

President of the CC Democratic Club

PICNIC CANCELLED (BUT NOT DUES….) (UPDATED)

Because of COVD-19, the annual Club Picnic (normally held in July) is CANCELLED.

Now, lots of club members have renewed their dues at the Picnic – in fact, more than HALF of our members normally do so!

Since that won’t be an option this year, this is a reminder that DUES ARE DUE! (?)

(Since the Club Year runs May – May, the 2020-2021 Club Year began just last month.)

So, send those dues to Mark Wilson, 1699 King Richard Road, Eldersburg, MD 21784.

Dues are $15 for an individual, or $25 for a couple/family – unchanged for years and years and years!

Such a bargain! And in this election year, so critical!

Make your checks payable to “CCDemClub” or “Carroll County Democratic Club”.

In return, you will be sent a super-spiffy membership card  – woohoo!

UPDATE: We already have 16 renewed members, in 13 memberships! Keep ‘em coming!

  • Mark

THE CLUB NOW TAKES PAYPAL! (NEW)

We’ve added the option to send money to the Carroll County Democratic Club via PayPal, if you prefer that to sending a check.

I’ve set up a PayPal account under the email “ccdem…@gmail.com” (NOTE the “md” at the end!).

You can now send payments to that email (ccdem…@gmail.com).
If you do, please use the “Add a Note” section below the amount you’re sending so I know what it’s for (dues, general contribution, contribution to the GoodWorks Fund, perhaps a specific fundraiser, whatever). Thanks!

WHY A.G. FROSH OPPOSES HOGAN’S VOTING PLAN (NEW)

From A.G. Brian Frosh’s office:x

I wanted to make sure that you had seen AG Frosh’s arguments against Governor Hogan’s proposal to rely on in-person voting in November.

(link to the statement: https://ccdems.com/brian-frosh-on-hogans-voting-plan/)

If individuals would like to take action, here are some options:

1.  Go to  SIGN THE PETITION

2.  Call the Governor at 1-800-811-8336 or 410-974-3901 and leave a message

3.  Go to  EMAIL THE GOVERNOR

Thanks.

YARD SIGNS ARE AVAILABLE!

BIDEN and RASKIN yard signs are available.   Please email ccmdde…@gmail.com  and indicate if you can pick up in Westminster or you need delivered.  Donations to offset cost are welcomed.

MORE Action Steps to Stay Politically Active While Staying at Home

Write Postcards with Flip the West to Flip the Senate Blue

“Flip the West’s postcard campaigns are focused on flipping the U.S. Senate. Winning the Senate is key to the future of the courts, expanding healthcare, protecting the environment, racial justice and so many other critical issues. With all plans for canvassing on hold, reaching voters with postcards becomes tremendously important.

Currently our postcard campaign is in Iowa. We are writing to voters there, urging them to elect Democrat Teresa Greenfield to the U.S. Senate. Polls in Iowa show that she has a real chance to defeat Republican Senator Joni Ernst, a true Trump lackey.

Once you sign up, you will receive your list of names and addresses in an email within 72 hours.”

New Ways to Get Involved and Make an Impact!

We’ve just gotten notified of TWO ways people can get involved with the effort to build a Big Blue Wave this November!

– Carroll County Phonebank

– Ways to support Jamie Raskin’s e-election

——————————————————————–

1) Carroll County Phonebank

From Justin Wilson, Regional Organizing Director of MDDEMS.ORG:

Here is the information about our phonebanking program:

With the rise of school closings and people working from home during the coronavirus outbreak,

I have decided that the best way to build up the party and prepare our Pennsylvania export program for roll out is to set up weekly remote phonebanks.

Starting this week, I’ll be hosting a training every Monday @ 7:30pm on zoom video conferencing.

The URL for that training is https://zoom.us/j/835664857

Hopefully we can recruit more and more volunteers in the coming weeks.

Our script has three priorities:

– Informing folks of the postponement of the MD primary and to emphasize the importance of voting by mail,

– gathering information from voters to help increase voter turnout in 2020 and 2022 as well as

– identifying folks who are willing to volunteer in a big GOTV operation for the general election for Pennsylvania.

If we prepare now, we can turn PA blue in November!
