Note from the President (NEW)
Today is the 75th anniversary of D-Day, June 6, 1944. When the Allies stormed the
beaches of Normandy, thousands of American lives were lost. Among them was my first
cousin, Cpl. Alfred F. Kurzawski, of the 299th Engineer Combat Battalion, who “Died Of
Wounds” received in action on D-Day in France. He was 21. Alfred is buried at
Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial, Colleville-sur-Mer, Departement du
Calvados, Basse-Normandie, France. He died before I was born but my father, a WWII
veteran who had been stationed in the Pacific, made sure we knew about him and
honored his memory. Alfred and my father were part of the “greatest generation” who
fought to save the world. May we honor them by doing our part to stand up and fight for
our great nation, for our democracy, and for a better world.
Our Club does not have regular meetings in the summer but you can stay connected
through our weekly newsletter that highlights the events that our CC Democrats can
take part in. I want to give a special shout-out to our Club Treasurer, Mark Wilson, who
diligently and faithfully compiles, updates and delivers the newsletter every week. Thank
you so much, Mark!
I hope to see many of you at our annual Club picnic on Sunday, July 28 from 1-4 PM at
the Lions Club Park in Union Mills. Mark has provided all the details in this newsletter.
By the way, our next regular Club meeting will take place on Monday, September 9, so
please save the date.
And as always, please feel free to share with me your ideas to strengthen our Club.
Thank you for all you do to give Democrats a vibrant and meaningful voice in Carroll
County.

Maryland Easy Enrollment Health Insurance Program
From Vincent DeMarco of the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative:
May 13, 2019
Marylanders Can Now Enroll in Health Insurance via Their State Income Tax Returns
Thanks to Landmark Health Care Bill
Maryland Easy Enrollment Health Insurance Program Will Help Thousands Obtain Health Insurance
Washington, D.C., May 13, 2019 – Today, Governor Larry Hogan, Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller, and House Speaker Adrienne Jones signed a first-of-its-kind health care enrollment bill into law. The Maryland Easy Enrollment Health Insurance Program (MEEHP) will let Marylanders jump-start enrollment into health insurance by simply checking a box on their annual state income tax returns.
…
The bill, which passed with broad, bipartisan support, should serve as a model by other states and the federal government for expanding health care access in a bipartisan way. To underscore this point, Families USA and the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative joined Maryland elected officials for the bill signing in Annapolis.
