Note from the President
Dear friends,
Thank you to all of you who attended our Club meeting which took place June 7 and many thanks and kudos to our speaker Cindy Sheffield of Allies for Democracy (formerly Allies for PA).
As a corollary to Ms. Sheffield’s great presentation, I am including a section in the newsletter (“RESOURCES”) on grassroots groups who offer activities that will help us stay active and engaged to protect voting rights and to ensure wins in the 2022 House, Senate and Gubernatorial elections.
We are very proud of our Club Director Carol Coley for being appointed by the Governor to the Carroll County Election Board. Congratulations Carol! We know you will serve the voters of Carroll County well.
Remember: our in-person CC Democratic Club Picnic will take place on Sunday July 25, 2021at Landon Burns Park at 700 Gist Road in Westminster from 1pm – 4pm. Learn more about it in the Events section of the newsletter. We are looking forward to it and hope to see you there!

Sunday July 25, 2021: Picnic (NEW LOCATION)
After years out in Union Bridge, we are MOVING the picnic to a more central location: Landon Burns Park, July 25, 1pm – 4pm.
The park is located adjacent to the Ag Center and Farm Museum at 700 Gist Road in Westminster.
The club will provide “communal” food (hamburgers and hot dogs, water, some sodas), but guests are encourage to bring their own personal items as well. (In years past, there was a lot of sharing, but this year we’ll skip that except for the club-provided items.
You do NOT need to sign up in advance – just come and enjoy!
The picnic is free to members; non-members $10. As always, Mark will be accepting club dues for anyone who wants to join up at the picnic.
We hope to have various candidates and officials come to speak – details as they become available.

These are groups that I have participated with and/or followed by being on their mailing lists for the last few years – some since the 2016 election. I get a great deal of inspiration and motivation from these groups. Though they are not local to Carroll County, please do check them out and see what they have to offer, get involved if you can, or let them be an inspiration for your activism.

Indivisible
“WE BEAT TRUMP. NOW, LET’S SAVE DEMOCRACY.
Right now, we are facing the interlocking catastrophes of a rigged democracy, global pandemic, unimaginable and growing wealth inequality, racial injustice, and the escalating impacts of the climate crisis. We’re fighting back. People like you are leading local Indivisible groups in every single state. Be part of history—join the Indivisible movement.
Local groups build and wield power in ways that individuals can’t. To create change, you need the power that comes with working together.”

Focus 2020
“Focus 2020 fills critical gaps to safeguard our democracy, expand the electorate, and ensure fair elections.
When democracy is on the line, we fund and staff vital grassroots, voting and civic organizations to boost their capacity and deliver results.
Our unconventional approach identifies under-resourced efforts, then puts skilled volunteers to work on high-impact projects. This unique model allows Focus 2020 to execute with a laser focus on what matters most.”
