Note from the President

Dear friends,

I hope this finds you all well.

The newly-elected officers of the CC Democratic Club met in a phone conference on Monday, May 4 and took the oath of office. We also brainstormed ways for the Club to stay virtually engaged until we are able to meet again in person. In this new Club year (May 2020-May 2021), the Club officers are looking forward to serving our Club members, contributing to our community, and supporting the election of Democratic candidates.

The CC Democratic Club – through its Good Works Fund – made a $100 contribution to the Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc (HSP) this past weekend. Their Director of Development, Kelly Combass, was to have been our speaker at the Club’s May meeting and we had planned to make the contribution then. HSP remains open to serve the most needy in Carroll County during this critical time. Monetary donations are very much needed. We invite you to make a contribution at https://hspinc.org/give/.

Please share with us your ideas for helping our community and for staying politically active. Take care and stay well.

Kate Sanner

President of the CC Democratic Club

Western MD Democratic Summit VIRTUAL EVENT! (NEW)

This year’s Western MD Democratic Summit will be a virtual event held on Saturday, June 27th, starting at 9:30am.

It’s free, but you MUST register!

See the details in the calendar listings below for the link and any further details as they become available.

New Ways to Get Involved and Make an Impact!

(This is adapted from a recent “blast”; repeated here slightly modified for future reference – Mark)

We’ve just gotten notified of TWO ways people can get involved with the effort to build a Big Blue Wave this November!

– Carroll County Phonebank

– Ways to support Jamie Raskin’s e-election

——————————————————————–

1) Carroll County Phonebank

From Justin Wilson, Regional Organizing Director of MDDEMS.ORG:

Here is the information about our phonebanking program:

With the rise of school closings and people working from home during the coronavirus outbreak,

I have decided that the best way to build up the party and prepare our Pennsylvania export program for roll out is to set up weekly remote phonebanks.

Starting this week, I’ll be hosting a training every Monday @ 7:30pm on zoom video conferencing.

The URL for that training is https://zoom.us/j/835664857

Hopefully we can recruit more and more volunteers in the coming weeks.

Our script has three priorities:

– Informing folks of the postponement of the MD primary and to emphasize the importance of voting by mail,

– gathering information from voters to help increase voter turnout in 2020 and 2022 as well as

– identifying folks who are willing to volunteer in a big GOTV operation for the general election for Pennsylvania.

If we prepare now, we can turn PA blue in November!

Title: Experience, Integrity, and a Commitment to Justice – Laura Morton for Judge of the Circuit Court Carroll County MD

Kate Sanner, host of Moving Forward, interviews Laura Morton who is running for Judge of the Circuit Court Carroll County MD in the 2020 MD Primary. In the podcast, Morton talks about the function of the Circuit Court, the role of the Judge of the Circuit Court, the need for a Judge to have trial experience and knowledge of her community and of community resources that can help break the cycle of recidivism and repeated incarceration and keep our communities safe. She also discusses how her experience as a trial attorney for over 23 years makes her the most qualified candidate for Judge of the Circuit Court Carroll County. Primary Election Bulletin re Allison Galbraith

As you may have heard, Allison Galbraith has withdrawn from the First Congressional District race.

Her deeply-felt and deeply-considered explanation is at https://mailchi.mp/allisonforcongress/allison-announcement.

In her absence, she asks all of us to “support the other two candidates, Jennifer Pingley (electJenRN.com) and Mia Mason (MiaDMason.us). Jennifer is a nurse who immediately impressed me with her grasp on policy, her public speaking skills, and her ability to clearly explain complicated concepts, as well as her extensive advocacy work. Mia is a veteran who has impressed me with her field efforts, her dedication to showing up in every county, and her consistent willingness to give each person the attention constituents deserve from our Reps. We would be lucky to have either, especially over someone like Andy Harris.”

Please do what you can to help us replace Andy Harris in the First Congressional District!

Primary Election Information

From the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee:

We hope everyone is doing well!

As we have said before, the Central Committee hopes that each of you is staying safe and healthy. We also hope you are finding ways to stay physically active and mentally engaged. If you don’t already follow us on Facebook and Twitter, we invite you to do so. We would also like to encourage you to have your voice heard by writing a Letter to the Editor in the Carroll County Times. It’s a great way to speak out on important issues.

Below are important updates concerning the June 2 primary and how it will work:

Maryland’s primary election will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 through mail-in ballot, with limited in-person voting available for those who are unable to vote by mail. To reduce the spread of coronavirus, we strongly recommend that voters who can vote by mail do so.

The Maryland State Board of Elections will automatically mail a ballot to the address that they have on file. You do not need to request a ballot to receive one. If you need to register to vote or update your current address, you must do so by Wednesday, May 27, 2020. Postage on your ballot is prepaid. You DO NOT need to add any stamps on your return envelope.

Voters who wish to drop off their ballots may do so at designated drop off locations during the early voting period from Thursday, May 21, 2020 through Tuesday, June 2, 2020. If dropping off your ballot, you must do so by 8:00 PM on June 2.

If you are unable to vote by mail, you may vote in-person on primary day, June 2, at a designated voting center in your jurisdiction. If you have not yet registered to vote, you may do so in-person on primary day at your voting center.

Your mail-in ballot must be postmarked by Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

The Carroll County Board of Elections has created an extensive Frequently Asked Questions for more specific information in regards to Carroll County:

As we mentioned in our last emails, our three goals for 2020 are to end the presidency of Donald Trump, replace Andy Harris in District 1, and return Jamie Raskin to office in District 8. Finally, our annual Victory Dinner has been rescheduled for September 10, 2020. We will keep you informed of developments as they unfold.
