Election Information! (NEW)

From the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee:

We hope everyone is doing well!

As we have said before, the Central Committee hopes that each of you is staying safe and healthy. We also hope you are finding ways to stay physically active and mentally engaged. If you don’t already follow us on Facebook and Twitter, we invite you to do so. We would also like to encourage you to have your voice heard by writing a Letter to the Editor in the Carroll County Times. It’s a great way to speak out on important issues.

Below are important updates concerning the June 2 primary and how it will work:

Maryland’s primary election will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 through mail-in ballot, with limited in-person voting available for those who are unable to vote by mail. To reduce the spread of coronavirus, we strongly recommend that voters who can vote by mail do so.

The Maryland State Board of Elections will automatically mail a ballot to the address that they have on file. You do not need to request a ballot to receive one. If you need to register to vote or update your current address, you must do so by Wednesday, May 27, 2020. Postage on your ballot is prepaid. You DO NOT need to add any stamps on your return envelope.

Voters who wish to drop off their ballots may do so at designated drop off locations during the early voting period from Thursday, May 21, 2020 through Tuesday, June 2, 2020. If dropping off your ballot, you must do so by 8:00 PM on June 2.

If you are unable to vote by mail, you may vote in-person on primary day, June 2, at a designated voting center in your jurisdiction. If you have not yet registered to vote, you may do so in-person on primary day at your voting center.

Your mail-in ballot must be postmarked by Tuesday, June 2, 2020.

The Carroll County Board of Elections has created an extensive Frequently Asked Questions for more specific information in regards to Carroll County:

As we mentioned in our last emails, our three goals for 2020 are to end the presidency of Donald Trump, replace Andy Harris in District 1, and return Jamie Raskin to office in District 8. Finally, our annual Victory Dinner has been rescheduled for September 10, 2020. We will keep you informed of developments as they unfold.

Request from the Humane Society of Carroll County

From the HSCC:

Note from the President (NEW)

Dear friends,

I hope this finds you feeling well and doing as well as can be expected in this time of staying home during this health crisis. If you are an essential worker who must continue to work outside the home, thank you so much for all you do. We owe you so much.

Though Club activities have been significantly curtailed, we were still able to conduct our elections for officers for the new Club year (May 2020-May 2021) via email. Congratulations to our new officers Paula Monroe-Davidson, Susie Coddington, and Harvey Rabinowitz and to our returning officers Mark Wilson, Corynne Courpas, and Carol Coley. Frank Rammes remains our immediate past-president. We will be meeting virtually to plan for the upcoming club year in the next couple weeks.

If you are looking for ways to stay involved politically, may I suggest one of my favorite resources – Postcards to Voters (https://postcardstovoters.org/). “Postcards to Voters are friendly, handwritten reminders from volunteers to targeted voters giving Democrats a winning edge in close, key races coast to coast. Now, we consist of over 75,000+ volunteers in every state (including Alaska and Hawaii) who have written close to 5 million postcards to voters in over 199 key, close elections.” Thanks to the efforts of PTV writers, Democrat Jill Karofsky was elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court on April 7th. I feel fortunate to have been part of this group of dedicated writers and am grateful to have PTV as a resource for my activism.

I just signed up for the “The Shep Stride Virtual 0.0 Run, Walk or NONE!” that will take place on May 9. I invite CCDC members, the Club’s FB page followers, and all those on our email list to join me and support the work of The Shepherd’s Staff – Carroll County, MD and all the people it serves. Here are a few details:

WHEN: Saturday, May 9, 2020

TIME: 12:00 a.m. – 11:59 p.m.

WHERE: Around your house, in your neighborhood, in your yard, in your kitchen, or on your couch!

(Anywhere you can safely practice social distancing of course!)

COST: $25.00 + $2.50 sign-up fee per registrant

Now more than ever TSS needs your help! Funding is at an all-time low and need is at an all-time high.

Your registration will help allow TSS to continue to provide emergency financial assistance to those in need in Carroll County. Times are tough for everyone right now, but let’s have a little (SAFE) fun (AT A DISTANCE!) and help those who need help the most at the same time.

Go for a run, jump on your treadmill, walk to the kitchen or sit on the couch! But PLEASE participate! After you “race”, go to TSS’ event page on Facebook and post your pictures! https://www.facebook.com/pg/ShepherdsStaffCC/events/?ref=page_internal

The CC Democratic Club – through its Good Works Fund – has been a proud supporter of The Shepherd’s Staff Back-to-School Program. I would love for anyone who can to help support TSS in this time of great need. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.

Register through this link: https://runsignup.com/Race/MD/Anywhere/TheShepStrideVirtual00?fbclid=IwAR3LauaTD0tIMn_rK3K_Nw7MphN9Ip1QPowQvEf8vM1QmE1UeFO-GCAwZYo

Please share with us your ideas for helping our community and for staying politically active. Take care and stay well.

Kate Sanner
