From the HSCC:

Election Information! (NEW)

From Katherine Berry, Election Director, Carroll County Board of Elections:

The Governor has delayed the election until June 2 and has ratified the State Board of Election’s recommendation for a mostly by-mail election because of the CDC guidelines and overall concern for the safety of our voters, election judges and staff.

This has been a very difficult time for everyone, but I want you to know that we, along with the State Board of Elections are working very hard to make this transition and do it in the most transparent way possible.

In-person early voting will not be occurring; however, large ballot drop boxes will be placed outside of our two early voting centers, as well as our central office.

This is where voters can place their voted ballots from May 21-28.

These boxes will be available for drop off during certain hours and the ballots will be brought back to the office each night.

Voters always have the option to use the prepaid postage envelope to mail their ballot to the office if they choose.

There will be limited in person voting on June 2 at our two early voting centers.

We will be following all CDC guidelines.

The electronic pollbooks will have updated information in them regarding all voters who have already cast their ballots to prevent people from voting twice.

Canvass (or counting) of ballots will occur beginning on May 21.

Results will not be available until after the polls are closed on June 2.

We will not be canvassing ballots on election day so as to preserve the electronic pollbook’s data for accuracy and insuring that people are not voting twice.

All canvass days will be posted on our website and social media regarding the hours and schedule that this will occur.

We will be live streaming the canvass so that we can maximize the amount of people assisting us with canvass and follow all CDC guidelines.

Canvass could last until June 12.

I encourage you to review the press statement from the State Board of Elections here: https://elections.maryland.gov/press_room/documents/SBE%20Statement_Election%20Plan%2004102020.pdf?fbclid=IwAR3xr5RaBfQg6sdJ_X86FCIyS52gAgCH2IboQ9tG2Fg0Rdp4JHUIc64dkPY

I am committed to keeping you all updated as we move through this process and encourage you to continue to contact me if you have any questions! Also, continue to follow us on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates! The Community Media Center along with the County’s Communication Department will also be helping us with outreach. Stay tuned!

Note from the President (UPDATED)

Dear friends,

I hope this finds you well.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the closing of schools, libraries, and government offices, the curtailment or complete closing of businesses, the cancellation of events, and the urgent need for staying home and social distancing.

As we take care of ourselves and our families, let’s also remember to care of those who are in need of community assistance and support even in the best of times. Though there are many worthy charities and service organizations in Carroll County, I include here three organizations that the Club has supported in the recent past and who could use your financial help in these challenging times:

Carroll County Food Sunday – https://ccfoodsunday.org/how-to-help/

Human Services Programs of Carroll County – https://hspinc.org/give/ (scroll down to Online Gift)

The Shepherd’s Staff – https://www.shepstaff.org/giving/ways-to-give/donate-online/

Please follow and stay up to date with the health and public safety recommendations issued by:

Stay well.

Kate Sanner

President of the CC Democratic Club
