Note from the President (NEW)

Dear friends,

By now, you should have received the Carroll County Democratic Club’s email cancelling our next in-person meeting on April 6.

At this meeting, we were going to do two things: host a forum of the candidates for Judge of the Circuit Court of Carroll County and hold elections for Club officers for the 2020-2021 club year.

First, I will be contacting each of the Judge of the Circuit Court candidates to ask if they could do a teleconference – telephone interview – with me so that we can share with you this important candidate information so you can be an informed voter.

Second, we will be sending an email to our members requesting a vote by return email for our slate of officers for the upcoming club year. We will announce the results of the election to our entire club email list.

The Club will continue sending out our weekly email newsletter and we will keep you updated on the status our May 4th meeting.

Also, the Club’s weekly Postcard Writing Groups will not meet until the danger of COVID-19 has passed. If you are not yet an authorized postcard writer, please go to Postcards to Voters – https://postcardstovoters.org/ – and follow their instructions on how to become one. Also, Turn PA Blue – https://turnpablue.org/ – will be starting postcard initiatives in addition to their other virtual activities to help turn our neighbor Pennsylvania back to a blue state. Please sign up for their updates and see how you can get virtually involved. They are impressively organized!

As per Maryland’s Primary Election, please check in on the Carroll County Board of Elections website at https://elections.carrollcountymd.gov/. There you will be provided links to the latest info from the MD State Board of Elections which will dictate the policies county boards will follow. Here is the message on the home page of the CC Board of Elections:

“The safety and health of our customers and staff is top priority. Until further notice this office is closed. If you need to reach the office please email cc…@carrollcountymd.gov. A staff member will contact you as soon as possible.”

Though their office is physically closed, they continue to steadfastly do the work. I can personally vouch for their responsiveness and their commitment to Carroll County voters and to our electoral process. They will keep us updated as soon as decisions are made about the primary election.

Please follow and stay up to date with the health and public safety recommendations issued by: our local government at https://www.carroll-lhd.org/covid-19 , our state government at https://health.maryland.gov/ , and the CDC – https://www.cdc.gov/ .

Let’s pull together to get through this crisis. Stay well.

Kate Sanner

President of the CC Democratic Club

April 7: “Harvest the Vote” Book Event in Frederick (UPDATED)

NOTE: right now, it is NOT clear if the following event will be cancelled due to COVID-19. Please go to https://curiousiguana.com/page/2/?tribe_paged=2&tribe_event_display=list to check the status of the event.

The Curious Iguana bookstore in Frederick, MD will host author Jane Kleeb who will

share her new book, Harvest the Vote: How Democrats Can Win Again in Rural

America. The event runs from 7pm to 8pm.  Harvest the Vote is an urgent and stirring road map showing how the

Democratic party can, and should, engage rural America.

This event is free but registration is preferred; click https://curiousiguana.com/event/jane-kleeb-harvest-the-vote/  to register. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event. Here is the Facebook link to get a free

ticket and reserve your place: https://www.facebook.com/events/199001544608651/

About the book:

The Democratic Party has lost an entire generation of rural voters. By

focusing the majority of their message and resources on urban and

coastal voters, Democrats have sacrificed entire regions of the country

where there is more common ground and shared values than what

appears on the surface.

In Harvest the Vote, Jane Kleeb, chair of Nebraska’s Democratic Party

and founder of Bold Nebraska, brings us a lively and sweeping argument

for why the Democrats shouldn’t turn away from rural America. As a party leader and

longtime activist, Kleeb speaks from experience. She’s been fighting the national party

for more resources and building a grassroots movement to flex the power of a voting

bloc that has long been ignored and forgotten.
