Moms Demand Action: Donation, and Other Items! (NEW)
At the March meeting, Bridget McCullough of Moms Demand Action made a moving and informative presentation. In recognition of her talk, and the wonderful work MOMS does, the club voted to make a $100 donation to that organization, and that has been done.
Bridget also asked us to share the link to electronically sign the postcard to support closing the loophole on background checks for long guns: https://act.everytown.org/sign/md-long-gun-loophole/
There will be a Carroll County Moms Demand Action meeting on Thursday, 28 March at a private home in Sykesville. The address will be provided when you RSVP. Here is the Carroll County Moms RSVP Link for this event: https://northeast-moms.ngpvanhost.com/ngpvanforms/45124
Moving Forward Podcast: Interview with Dr. Angela Putman, intercultural scholar and Assistant Professor at Penn State (NEW)
Kate Sanner, host of Moving Forward, interviews Dr. Angela Putman, a critical intercultural scholar and Assistant Professor at Penn State University Brandywine.
Dr. Putman’s Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees are in Organizational Communication and her Ph.D. is in Intercultural Communication. Her dissertation focused on educating people about systemic racism, intersectionality, and white privilege. She is passionate about communication, social justice issues, education, and speaking out against injustices.
In this podcast, Dr. Putman explains systemic racism and white privilege and presents practical ways for every white person to take action against them.

Humane Society check presentation
The CCDC sponsored a December holiday donation event for the Humane Society of Carroll County and raised $250. We presented the ceremonial check to Karen Baker, Executive Director of the HSCC at our club meeting March 4. Pictured above are Carol Coley (of the HSCC and the CCDemClub), Karen Baker, and Mark Wilson of the CCDemClub.
Advocacy Opportunity! Support Auto Insurance Discrimination Law
The Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition is supporting legislation that would not allow insurance companies to include occupation and education as factors in determining insurance rates — because it discriminates against people who only have a high school education and/or a blue collar job and has nothing to do with one’s driving record.
Courtney Watson is on the Economic Matters subcommittee that will be voting on the bill. We are trying to get people to contact her to urge her to support this bill.
Please email Courtne…@house.state.md.us and ask her to support House Bills 329 and 351, insurance rate discrimination based on education or profession.
Training Opportunities from the National Democratic Training Committee
The NDTC has three new FREE training opportunities: (1) NDTC Staff Academy, (2) NDTC 30-Day Challenge and (3) NDTC’s overall free campaign webinars available on their website For details and links, go to:

Advocacy Opportunity! Ask Legislators to Support the Health Insurance Down Payment Plan
From Vincent DeMarco of the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative:
I want to thank everyone who has contacted their legislators and asked them to create a Prescription Drug Affordability Board. Now I am asking you to please help us defend the gains we have made under the Affordable Care in Maryland. The ACA has provided coverage to over 400,000 Marylanders. But, this progress is in danger because of the federal decision not to enforce the individual mandate.
Please contact your legislators (via our Action Page) and urge them to co-sponsor legislation to be introduced by Senator Brian Feldman and Delegate Joseline Peña-Melnyk to create a Health Insurance Down Payment Plan.
This plan would give people without health coverage a choice: either pay a penalty to the state or instead use that money to purchase quality, affordable healthcare. Not only would this help stabilize the individual market, but it could incentivize over 130,000 more Marylanders get the coverage they need.
Please go to our Action Page to easily send emails to all of your state legislators and see their phone numbers. Or, you can look up their information at mdelect.net
Thank you for all that you continue to do to support quality, affordable healthcare for all Marylanders. We’ll continue to send you updates as the legislative session unfolds.
Opportunity: Paid Internship with the Maryland Democratic Party
The Maryland Democratic Party is now offering a paid internship program. We are very excited about this change and hope you are as well. More information and instructions on how to apply can be found at https://www.mddems.org/intern.
