Note from the President (UPDATED)
Many thanks to all of you who attended the Club’s mini-workshop Take Action: Writing Effective Letters to the Editor & Postcards on Monday, February 3. What an engaged and interactive group! I was impressed by how many of you were regular LTE writers and I thank you for sharing your own experience and expertise. Thanks also to our presenter, Deborah Carter, who gave an excellent presentation.
The Club’s regularly scheduled meetings will resume on Monday, March 2, 2020. The meeting will take place at the Taneytown Branch of the Carroll County Public Library from 6:30-8:30 PM. At the meeting, the Club will be hosting a candidate forum with the three Democratic candidates – Mia Mason, Jennifer Pingley, and Allison Galbraith – who are running in the primary for Congressional District 1 seat now occupied by Republican Andy Harris.
Following the forum, the Club will hold its meeting and announce a slate of candidates for the 2020-2021 Club year. (Election of officers will take place at the April meeting.) We will also provide updates on some of the Club initiatives.
Starting this Saturday, February 8 from 10 AM to 12 Noon in the small meeting room of the Westminster Library, the Club will launch its Postcards 4 Maryland Carroll County postcard writing group Find out more details later in the newsletter.
Please stay engaged and get others engaged with the CC Democratic Club. Remember, you don’t need to be a member to attend our meetings, activities, or to volunteer (though we would love it if you do). Thank you for all you do to give Democrats an important presence and vibrant voice in Carroll County.

ALL ARE WELCOME AT OUR MEETINGS AND EVENTS!
Did you know that you do not have to be a member of the CC Democratic Club to
attend our meetings and events? Our activities are open to anyone who would like to
attend and participate. (Almost all our activities are free. Our picnic in July is free to paid
members.)
That being said, we would love to have you as a member! Membership costs $15 for an
individual and $25 for a couple per club year. You will get a very spiffy membership card
and the gratitude and camaraderie of fellow CC Democrats. Most importantly, your
membership dues help the Club extend its outreach in the community, so please
consider joining. You can join at any meeting, or by contacting Treasurer Mark Wilson, wils…@gmail.com.
Postcards 4 Maryland postcard writing group! (NEW)
The CC Democratic Club has formed the Postcards 4 Maryland Carroll County postcard writing group
We will be meeting weekly on Saturdays from 10 AM to 12 Noon in the small meeting room of the Westminster Branch of the Carroll County Public Library starting this coming Saturday, February 8, 2020.
We will be writing postcards through Postcards to Voters, Postcards to Wisconsin (they are providing the cards – we provide the stamps), postcards for PA through a MD based allies group, and any other battleground state postcard campaigns I learn about. Please bring postcards if you have them. Since February 8 will be our first meeting, I (Kate) will bring postcards to use. I will let you know where to order some for purchase to use going forward and I will also have some to sell at cost. Please also bring postcard stamps. Postcard postage is $0.35. You can buy books of 20 stamps at the post office or rolls of 100 stamps. I will also have stamps you can purchase for use that day. The room seats 10 people so if you plan to come, let me know. If the group grows over time, I will try to get the larger library room. We will also be meeting on Saturday February 15, 22, and 29.

April 7: “Harvest the Vote” Book Event in Frederick
The Curious Iguana bookstore in Frederick, MD will host author Jane Kleeb who will
share her new book, Harvest the Vote: How Democrats Can Win Again in Rural
America. The event runs from 7pm to 8pm. Harvest the Vote is an urgent and stirring road map showing how the
Democratic party can, and should, engage rural America.
This event is free but registration is preferred; click https://curiousiguana.com/event/jane-kleeb-harvest-the-vote/ to register. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event. Here is the Facebook link to get a free
ticket and reserve your place: https://www.facebook.com/events/199001544608651/
About the book:
The Democratic Party has lost an entire generation of rural voters. By
focusing the majority of their message and resources on urban and
coastal voters, Democrats have sacrificed entire regions of the country
where there is more common ground and shared values than what
appears on the surface.
In Harvest the Vote, Jane Kleeb, chair of Nebraska’s Democratic Party
and founder of Bold Nebraska, brings us a lively and sweeping argument
for why the Democrats shouldn’t turn away from rural America. As a party leader and
longtime activist, Kleeb speaks from experience. She’s been fighting the national party
for more resources and building a grassroots movement to flex the power of a voting
bloc that has long been ignored and forgotten.
