Note from the President (NEW)
Dear friends,
Excitement is growing for the CC Democrats’ Holiday Shop Local Event on Saturday, December 4th! Please remember that the deadline for signing up for the CC Democrats’ Holiday Shop Local event is Friday, November 26, 2021 (until 10 PM).
This event offers us the opportunity to gather safely this holiday season and to show CC Democrats’ support for our great Main St. businesses.
We will kick off our event with a gathering in King Park (Chase Street in Westminster) at 10 AM where we will enjoy coffee, tea and hot chocolate, socialize, and hear a few words from CCDC and CCDCC leadership, Mike McMullin, the president of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, and members of the Westminster City Council. Then, we will head down to Main Street around 10:30 AM and shop at businesses we have selected for the event.
Each participant will receive a card with a list of the participating businesses. (See the list of businesses later on in the newsletter.) When you make a purchase at any of these businesses, have the salesperson initial the card. Each of the businesses has been contacted and they have agreed to sign off on the cards. (NOTE: If you choose to shop at any other business not on the list…THAT’S GREAT! Just add it in yourself to the shopping card.) Bring your shopping card with you when you return to King Park at 12:30.
At that time, we will gather for a lunch catered by Rare Opportunity Bakehouse. The Bakehouse is offering 3 delicious lunch choices (with one vegetarian choice) which you will find described on the sign-up page and where you can place your order. The cost of the lunch is $18.00. The sign-up page also gives you two options to pre-pay: via PayPal or by check.
You will turn in your signed card for a drawing to win a gift card from one or more of our great Main Street businesses. The drawing, sponsored by the CC Dem Club, will take place while we are eating lunch.
Please note: If after you return from shopping you just want to turn in your card, pick up your lunch, and head home, that is OK too. We will provide a space on the back of your shopping card to write your name and phone number and I will personally call you if you have won one of the gift cards.

End Medical Debt Maryland
End Medical Debt Maryland is a statewide coalition of labor unions, civil rights groups, political organizations, and other groups working together with community members to pass comprehensive medical billing reform, educate Marylanders on their rights as patients, and eliminate barriers to healthcare.
Earlier this year, EMDMaryland passed the Medical Debt Protection Act in the Maryland General Assembly. This legislation granted Maryland patients new protections against some of the most harmful hospital debt collection practices, but there’s still a lot of work to be done to ensure all patients are treated with the care and dignity they deserve.
Americans are facing a medical debt crisis — right now, medical bills are the largest source of debt in collections and the leading cause of bankruptcy in the country. Meanwhile, Maryland’s “nonprofit” hospitals continue to sue their own patients over unpaid medical bills, regularly for low-sum debts of under $250. For Marylanders already struggling to make ends meet, these lawsuits are financially and emotionally devastating.
For this reason, EMDMaryland is currently focused on community outreach work. We’re hosting medical debt clinics, canvasses, and educational town halls across the state to share resources and talk with Marylanders about their rights as patients and the best course of action to take if (or when) medical debt starts to pile up.

Postcards to Voters (PTV)
If you would like to get involved in getting Democrats elected but can’t see yourself doing phone-baking or door-to-door canvassing, then postcard writing may be for you. Writing postcards to voters is one of the best ways to reach out to voters around the country about their local elections or to sign up for vote by mail. There are elections going on right now (with many more to come next year) and you can be part of getting Democrats elected by writing friendly, handwritten postcards. As a volunteer postcard writer, you will provide the postcards, stamps, and time, PTV will provide what to write, thorough instructions, and addresses of voters.
