Election Day Food Drive (NEW)

Because Hunger is Non-partisan

I am writing to let you know about the Election Day Food Drive. This is a non-partisan effort to collect non-perishable food for Carroll Food Sunday.

The drive will take place on election day, Tuesday November 6th  at all Carroll County polls.

The Drive was started at the 2008 election when the generous citizens of Carroll County donated over 3,000 lbs of food at the polls.

The EDFD group is continuing the effort this November and is trying to get the word out early and wide.

I sincerely hope you will consider helping the effort by using any email list serves, newsletters, and social media to let your friends and associates know of this important food drive.

Carroll Food Sunday is in its 35th year of serving Carroll residents, providing supplemental nutrition to the neediest who live here.

In 2017, 1,580 families were helped for a total of over 48,000 requests. 350,000 lbs of donated and purchased non-perishable food plus milk and Veggie Vouchers were distributed, with…… 2 part time employees. Over 7,500 volunteer hours were donated which helps account for the fact that 93¢ of every Carroll Food Sunday dollar is used to purchase groceries.

Please help us spread the word about the Election Day Food Drive.

More information on Carroll Food Sunday can be found on our website: http://ccfoodsunday.org/, and

Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CarrollFoodSunday

Election Day Food Drive can be friended on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/ElectionDayFoodDrive

Volunteers are also gladly and gratefully welcomed.

All non-perishable food items are always welcomed, but canned vegetables, canned fruit, and cereals are the core menu items that we must purchase to supplement food donations and are always the items needed most.

The 2016 Election Day Food Drive brought in about 4,000 lbs of food to CCFS, that’s 2  tons and is about half the amount of food that Food Sunday distributes weekly. Please help us set a new record in 2018.

Thank you for your help,

Frank Baylor

A Message from Brian Frosh

Has it ever felt more important to get to the polls — either to vote early between October 25 and November 1 or on Election Day, November 6?  Despite the challenges we know we face, new activists are teaming up with longtime activists to create a powerful force in politics. We can’t let up now.

I want Marylanders to feel safer from crime, pollution, and other challenges that affect our wellbeing.  The Office of the Attorney General has been a force for protecting individuals from predatory practices that can touch every family.  A senior should not feel pressured to sign up for anything that they do not understand or cannot afford – and we’ve had success after success in investigating and shutting down wrongdoing.  Those committing Medicaid fraud must face the consequences and we, for example, won a $10 million settlement from EpiPen maker Mylan based on fraud charges.

We are battling vigorously for enforcement of protections for clean water and air. My commitment to environmental causes runs deep — as you know from my success as a legislator in Annapolis in banning oil drilling in the Chesapeake Bay.  Air pollution takes many forms – some we don’t know about until it’s too late. In the case of Volkswagen’s emission scandal, we took vigorous action for Marylanders, and, my Office recovered around $200 million for the harm Volkswagen inflicted on consumers and the damage it did to our environment.

The work of AG is what I want to do.  I care deeply about the future for every Marylander and for generations to come. I value your support for my re-election and for all Democrats in this important mid-term election.

Brian Frosh

Maryland Attorney General

BALLOT INITIATIVES

From Eva Lewis, Political Director of the Maryland Democratic Party:

There are two ballot initiatives that voters will vote on for this election –
(1) Fix the Fund so that monies from gambling are in a “lockbox” and can only be used for education and
(2) passing an amendment to our state constitution to allow same day registration on election days.
The state party supports both ballot initiatives.
