NEW and UPDATED items are marked and highlighted in the Table of Contents, and in the details.

For UPDATED items, I’ll try to highlight the changed or new bits (like this!)

Any problems, or to submit items for the newsletter, email me at wils…

Some folks were asking… Club meetings are on hold for now. We are looking into what would be required to hold Zoom meetings, and naturally in-person meetings will likely not resume for quite some time. Any meetings WILL be announced well in advance in this newsletter, and will also be listed on the CCDEMS Calendar:

Video Message from Jamie Raskin (NEW)

A message for Carroll County Dems from Congressman Raskin!

Note from the President

Dear friends,

I hope this finds you all doing well.

Election Day – November 3 – is coming fast, but in truth, the election is going on right now with absentee voting and early voting taking place around the country.

As Rachel Maddow said on her show the other night: “When you wake up on the morning of election day, will you be able to say to yourself, ‘Well, whatever happens, I know that I did all I could do’?” She further suggested: “Do it now. Sit down. Talk with your family, your partner, your best friend, your kids, or whoever you make important decisions with – figure out what you personally can do to apply your own self towards bringing about the election outcome that you want. And then – go do it! Right away! If you are going to do anything, this is the time to do it. And when you wake up on Election Day, won’t you want to know that you have done all you could have done? Yes, that’s your personal voting plan in terms of getting your vote in and getting your vote counted. But it’s more than that, right? If you were going to donate – if you have money to donate – NOW is the time. If you are going to phone bank – for a candidate, or for a proposition, or for a party, NOW is the time. If you were going to volunteer for a candidate or for a campaign, NOW is the time. If you were going to sign up to be a poll worker, and you haven’t done so already- NOW is the time. The time for thinking about it, for pondering it, for trying to imagine yourself doing something like that, the time for all that is coming to an end – IT IS NOW TIME TO GO. You are going to wake up (on Election Day) wanting to feel like you did all you could. You will be happier and healthier (between now and then), if you are in fact doing something to help bring about the outcome that you want. So, this is the time to figure out what it is. It is time to hit the GO button.”

Our Club Treasurer and newsletter publisher Mark Wilson has been notifying you of volunteer opportunities and so many of you have responded. We thank you for putting out the yard signs, donating, making bids at the Carroll County Democrats Victory Auction, writing letters to the editor, volunteering at Democratic headquarters, writing GOTV postcards, phone-banking…and more. Soon, we CC Democrats will be text-banking.

Mia Mason, who is running for Congress in Congressional District 1 against Andy Harris, needs help with labeling and mailing post cards and with handing out flyers at the polls on November 3. Contact: Lau… to volunteer.

Laura Morton, who is running for Circuit Court Judge-Carroll County against Richard Titus, needs help placing doorhangers in neighborhoods (you can do your own neighborhood) and with handing out material at polls on November 3. Contact: lauramort… to volunteer.

If you want to find out more opportunities to volunteer between now and the election, go to the website of the Maryland State Democratic Party – – to find out how you can help.

To paraphrase the great Mother Teresa, we cannot all do great things, but we can do small things with great love…and with great enthusiasm and great hope. We are in the home stretch. Let’s all wake on November 3 knowing we did all we could.

Take care of yourselves and stay well – get plenty of rest, eat healthy food, and stay hydrated. We need you – so wear your mask, socially distance and wash your hands!  And most importantly – VOTE!

Kate Sanner

President of the CC Democratic Club

P.S. Remember – the Carroll County Democrats Victory Auction is going on through October 24, 2020 at 11:59 pm EST. Bid on our great donated items – including some wonderful new yard signs at –

DEMOCRATIC HEADQUARTERS, 295 East Main St., Westminster

If you are fired up and ready to go for this election, here is a great way to help out!

Every election year, the CC Democratic Club organizes a sign rally the night before the election at which volunteers pick up campaign signs at Dem headquarters and then put them up at polling places (and then take them down at the end of voting hours on Election Day).

Because of the pandemic, there are now a limited number of VOTE CENTERS. The location of the 13 vote centers can be found on

If you would like to volunteer, please contact Corynne Courpas at ccou… and let her know where in the county you are located. Corynne will try and match your location to the nearest vote center.

Then show up at Dem HQ at 295 East Main St. in Westminster on Monday, November 2 from 6 – 6:30 PM for porch pick up of your signs. Sign bundles will include signs for: Biden/Harris, either Jamie Raskin or Mia Mason depending on the Congressional District you live in, Virginia Harrison for Board of Education, and Laura Morton for Judge of the Circuit Court-Carroll County.

Thank you for your being a volunteer and for helping create Democratic victories nationally and in Maryland. Let’s win this!

  1. GOTV postcard campaign – The Club is in the midst of sending out Get Out the Vote postcards to Carroll County voters. We have so many wonderful volunteers who are writing a great message on these postcards, then addressing, stamping, and mailing them.

  1. July 2020: Contributed $100 through our Good Work’s Fund to Carroll County Food Sunday (CCFS).

“CCFS distributes a weekly, nutritionally balanced grocery package that is predicated on household size and is meant to last 3-4 days. It includes meat, eggs, fruits, vegetables, breads and milk. Over 400 families a week are served at our Westminster, Eldersburg and Taneytown locations.”

Please go to their website – – to learn about their hours of operation and to learn how you can help. The need is so great right now for many families, please consider making your own contribution if you are able.

  1. July 2020: Signed on in support of Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative resolution titled “Health Equity Resource Communities Initiative”.

As the Maryland Citizens’ Health Initiative states “All Marylanders deserve access to high-quality, affordable health care. However, health inequities based on race, ethnicity, and place of residence persist throughout the state, as shown in maternal and infant mortality rates and other measures. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exposed these health inequities and highlighted the need to address them and otherwise improve health outcomes in our state. In underserved areas of the state, people with chronic conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, asthma, diabetes, and substance and mental health disorders have worse health outcomes and are less able to get the care and treatment they need.”

Their solution

We are advocating for Maryland to create and fund Health Equity Resource Communities to help reduce health inequities. The Communities will provide grants, tax incentives, and health care provider loan repayment assistance to locations in the state with poor health outcomes that contribute to racial, ethnic, and geographic health inequities. They will be modeled after the successful 2012-2016 Health Enterprise Zones Program which successfully increased access to health resources, improved residents’ health, reduced hospital admissions, and created cost savings. Supporting health will help reduce preventable hospital admissions, which will result in lower overall health care costs, including lower insurance premiums for everyone.”

  1. May 2020: Contributed $100 through our Good Work’s Fund to the Human Services Programs of Carroll County, Inc. (HSP). Their Director of Development was to have been our speaker at the Club’s May meeting which was cancelled due to COVID-19. The Club also participated with an entry titled ”It Takes A Village” in HSP’s 4th Annual Gingerbread Village Festival in November 2019.

“HSP gives HOPE, inspires CHANGE, and provides OPPORTUNITY by mobilizing our community in the fight against poverty.”

Hope, change, and opportunity are the driving forces behind everything we do at Human Services Programs of Carroll County, Inc. We believe that with the right support, everyone can embrace hope, make meaningful changes, and take advantage of opportunities that will lead to a fulfilling and self-sufficient life.”
