Carroll County Democratic Central Committee June Meeting, June 11, 2020 Minutes Meeting was held virtually and was called to order by Don West, Chair, at 7:01pm. Committee Members in Attendance Don West, Mitch Edelman, Katherine Shaw, Charles Harrison, Raquel Walsh, Kate Sanner, Anne Stoner, Corynne Courpas, Tom Scanlan, Anita Riley Other Attendees Robert Kresslein, Cheryl Landis, Sally Long, Robbie Leonard Guest Speaker Cheryl Landis -- PG County Chair, running for DNC - Member of PG Central Committee since 2008, 2nd term as Chair, serving in interim capacity on DNC - Retired from PG County Public Schools - Reason for running -- staunch Democrat, committed to work, values, principles - #1 priority -- to educate MDers on importance of voting, consequences of not voting - Has met with multiple Central Committees throughout MD - Has done research into purpose of DNC, understands what is expected of a member - Bel Leong-Hong has been on DNC since 2011, asking for vote on her behalf Bob Kresslein -- running for DNC, position Greg Pecoraro vacating - We deserve representation from our region - Went to college at Western MD, began volunteering in politics then - Previously President of Frederick Democrat Club - Joined Central Committee - Currently MDP Treasurer Robbie Leonard -- running for DNC position - Current secretary for MDP - Four total slots -- two males, two females - From Baltimore County - Encouraging people to vote for himself, Bel, Cheryl, Bob - Previously Chair of Baltimore County Central Committee - Previously led MD efforts for Elizabeth Warren - Biden has done a good job on joining together teams, that's what he wants to bring to DNC Chair's Report - Approval of agenda -- motion to approve by Kate, 2nd by Corynne, vote unanimous - MDP full meeting on June 20 -- virtual meeting, need to register - CD 1 contest -- Mia Mason was up by about 3,000 votes, Central Committees will not have to decide the contest - LTEs -- thank you to everyone who has sent in Secretary's Report Motion to approve report by Anita; vote unanimous Treasurer's Report Current balance - $3,047.93. Motion to approve report by Anita; vote unanimous - Signs and annual insurance have been paid - Have received donations from Biden signs Committee Reports - No reports submitted - MDP Platform Committee -- platform turned over to Eva and Michael this week, will be a presentation at June 20th meeting - Mitch will send draft Old Business - Primary -- 6/2/20 -- calls for MD supervisor of elections to step down - Western MD Democratic PAC -- virtual event -- 6/27/20 -- register in advance, it's free - - Next year's summit -- April 30/May 1 - FallFest -- back on the table - Victory Dinner postponed to September 10th - - Should not count on having - - Can we have event outdoors? We could combine with a virtual fundraiser - - Motion to cancel September 10 Victory Dinner? Let's vote next month, see how things go - - Outdoor venue -- Pub Dog Brewery, with food truck? Possibility, Tom will look into, Anne may be willing to host - - Need to have outline of contingency plan, if we don't have formal event - - Greg still willing to host fundraiser - Hispanic and minority outreach -- no report - Biden yard signs -- kudos to Corynne - Big ass Biden signs -- four signs, 4x8, two at each early voting drop off and in person voting New Business - Taking a stance on issues in a timely fashion -- constituent raised concern about Hogan sending in National Guard, thought we should do something, we submitted an LTE, but it took 7-10 days - - Can we increase our social media presence? Should we focus on Twitter? - - Take cues from MDP social media - Headquarters -- virtual? - - Westminster Farmer's Market? Other cities/towns? - - Distribute signs and literature - - Sally -- worthy idea to think about, in terms of volunteers, concern with trying to hit more than one farmer's market on a Saturday, how would we get materials out to everyone? - - We would start with just one market at a time - - Where do our volunteers live? Might be easier for volunteers to attend local markets - - Some financial reservations regarding in person HQ, safety element - - There is an empty building, Corynne will call to see what the cost is - Voter registration -- now, how can we do it remotely? New voter registration is way down right now - We will continue with virtual meetings, library meeting rooms not being booked until August 31 Meeting adjourned at 8:22pm.
