Carroll County Democratic Central Committee Meeting Minutes November 9, 2017 Meeting was held in the Large Meeting Room of the Westminster Branch of the CCPL and was called to order by Don West, Chair, at 7:05 pm. Committee members in attendance Don West, Mitch Edelman, Corynne Courpas, Anita Riley, Frank Rammes, Mitch Edelman, Tom Scanlan, Dorothy Scanlan Other attendees Kara Adamcik, Lily Gavin (interns) Guest: Laura O'Callahan, Board of Elections member. There will now be two early voting locations in Carroll County. Chair's Report A number of members attended the NAACP dinner. The State party meeting was November 4. Several members plus our two interns attended. All eight gubernatorial candidates were there. We have a new candidate in Congressional District 1, Jessie Colvin. There are now four candidates for that district. Secretary's Report Motion to approve report by Frank R., 2nd by Mitch E.; vote unanimous. Treasurer's Report Treasurer's report was sent out via email to the members and shows a current balance of $7,789.98. There are no major expenses looming. Motion to approve report by Anita R., 2nd by Frank R.; vote unanimous. Club Reports Carroll County Democratic Club: Held its meeting on Monday. Karen Baker, the Assistant Director of the Humane Society of Carroll County, was the speaker. They are moving towards being a no-kill shelter. There will be no meeting until March. No speakers are lined up. South Carroll Democratic Club: No report Young Dems: Have met twice. They want speakersÑthey'd like local people to come in and talk about what Democrats are doing in the county. They are talking about taking a field trip to DC. Committee Reports VOCAL: Is meeting this Sunday, November 12, at the Finksburg library from 2-4pm. Carroll CAN: Met last Sunday. They are trying to figure out their niche. Local Politics: Another Republican, David Ellin, is running for District 5 House of Delegates. Three sitting commissioners have filed for re-election: Dennis Frazier, Dick Weaver, and Steve Wantz. Bylaws: The Rules committee presented at the State party meeting. The resolution on gender balance will not really affect us since we already do it. Communications: Our interns made phone calls this past Sunday. Many numbers are not in service anymore. We are close to 1,000 ''likes'' on FB. VAN: No update. Old Business Breakfast: We made $1,100. It was our largest crowd ever. Ben Cardin was a terrific speaker. Western MD PAC: No update. The summit is still on schedule. Four Year Plan: Everyone has received a copy. Motion to approve plan by Frank R., 2nd by Tom S.; vote unanimous. Victory dinner: May 10, 2018. New Business Holiday dinner: December 14, 2017. Limited to 45 people. Decided not to have a speaker. Cost is $35. MDP Summer VAN program: N/A Charity softball game: would be in the spring with the Republicans. Perhaps do it in the fall rather than the spring. Candidate Recruitment & Training: We will book a room in February. We need a committee to plan. Try to get the second or third weekend. Announcements The next regular meeting for the CCDCC will be Thursday, December 14 , starting at 6:30 pm, at the Buttersburg Inn for our annual holiday gathering. Meeting adjourned at 8:35pm.
