Minutes of the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee August 10, 2017 In attendance: Don West, Frank Rammes, Tom Scanlan, Corynne Courpas, Dorothy Scanlan, Anne Stoner, Anita Riley, Mitch Edelman. Interns: Kara Adamcik, Lily Gavin The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm by Don West. Pledge of Allegiance Chair's Report Sadie Allgeier has resigned from the Central Committee. Congressional District 1 will be a competitive race. We can't endorse for the primary. Emerge MD is forming its 2018 class; contact Dian Fink. Secretary's Report The July minutes were approved. Treasurer's Report The July Treasurer's Report was approved. The current balance in our checking account is $6167.81. A $2000 dollar deposit was made for the Victory Dinner, and $275 deposit was made for the breakfast. PO Box was paid for. Activist Groups VOCAL A meeting was held 8/6/17 to discuss the structure of Carroll County government and what they do. 15-18 in attendance CarrollCAN: no report Club Reports CC Dems: Anne Stoner will speak on LGBTQ issues on 9/11/17. Mona Becker will speak on 10/2/17 on environmental issues. South Carroll Club: Had a table at National Night Out in Eldersburg. Sold 5 bumper stickers. The meeting on 8/9/17 had a good turnout. Young Dems: No report. Subcommittees Local Politics: No one new has filed to run for any offices. The Board of Education wants to build their offices on the Friendship Valley campus. The Taneytown Fraziers have threatened a $5million lawsuit. Annapolis: No report Communications: No report VAN: August dates for training, perhaps for interns. LGBTQ: A motion was made to contact Kathleen Matthews to request a report from the LGBTQ committee at the next state meeting. A motion was made to appoint Anne Stoner as our ''official liaison for the LGBTQ community.'' Both motions passed unanimously. Old Business The four year plan will be sent to CCDCC by Mitch. Candidate recruitment and training events: 2 -3 house parties to attract interested people. Then have a training seminar in January of 2018. Anne and Corynne indicated they are willing to host a house parties. Tom will book the large meeting room in the Westminster library after October 1. The filing deadline to run is in February 2018. New Business The Victory Dinner is scheduled for May 10th; John Delaney is being considered as a speaker. The meeting adjourned at 8:32pm.
