Pledge of Allegiance Chair's Report Don suggested that the committee make a $100 to the Humane Society of Carroll County in memory of Debbie Ridgely, wife of Neil Ridgely. Neil is a long-time and tireless supporter of the party as well as a former committee member. The December state party meeting was reviewed. Bruce Poole will be stepping down as state chair after the national party chair is chosen. Locally, people have asked to have more informal social events. The first meeting of VOCAL (Voices of the Center and Left) was a success, but where do we proceed from here. We will wait to see how the other new group, Carroll CAN (formerly Together We Will) evolves. There will be a health care rally on January 15th at numerous locations around the country. The Maryland rally will be held at Bowie State University starting at 2PM. Doors will open at 1PM. Secretary's Report The November minutes were approved. Treasurer's Report There is a balance of $3,010.39 in our checking account. The Treasurer's report was approved. Club Reports CC Dems: No meetings are scheduled for January and February. Meetings will resume on March 6 with Angela Gustus of Human Services Program. There are no speakers as of yet lined up for April 3 or May 1. The club is considering asking Kevin Kamenetz and other potential gubernatorial candidates. South Carroll Club: A letter will go out next week to individuals who were members in the past in an effort to resurrect the club. Committee Reports Headquarters: no additional items to report. Local Politics: ''Keep Carroll Carroll'' is the working logo the commissioners came up with to give them focus to creating goals for the county. There are negative connotations that can be associated with this, but one commissioner insisted that this logo was ''just a placeholder''. Tom Scanlan attended the annual CCEA legislative breakfast. All the delegates and three of the commissioners were in attendance. Delegate Susan Krebs claimed that ''Maryland spends so much on health care and Medicaid that this takes money away from education''. Commissioner Richard Rothschild claimed that education should be ''decoupled'' from ''federal mandates''. Both brought up privatizing teacher pensions. Annapolis Report: the session has just begun Communications: We have 45 followers on Twitter. We have added quite a few people to our eblast list thanks to the new groups which have sprung up as a result of the election. We will use eblasts to keep people informed of central committee and club meetings. VAN: This is not an effective tool because so much information is outdated. The database needs to be able to collect email addresses. Western MD PAC: There have been two meetings. The summit will be held on April 28&29 at Rocky Gap State Park. Do we want to sponsor a table again? Old Business Charter: Dead Bumper Stickers: Anita will talk to Bob Lord and get a price for having these printed. Sponsor a movie: The movie, ''Lincoln'' was discussed as being a good fit. New Business Victory Dinner: The dinner is scheduled for May 4, 2017 this year. Anita has been working to get Steny Hoyer as the keynote speaker. Do we want music again this year? It was a significant expense last year. Should we get another pinata -- perhaps Putin? Two-year plan: Recruit a committee to tackle this Candidate recruitment: Perhaps we should consider creating an advisory council - a separate entity to make recruitment recommendations. NAACP breakfast: is this Saturday at Martin's at 9am. The meeting adjourned at 9:19pm. Our next meeting will be February 9, 2017. Respectfully submitted, Dorothy Scanlan Recording Secretary, CCDCC
