Minutes of the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee September 10, 2015 In attendance: Don West, Corynne Courpas, Frank Rammes, Dorothy Scanlan, Anita Riley, Charles Harrison, Mitch Edelman, Tom Scanlan The meeting was called to order at 7:00pm. Pledge of Allegiance Chair's Report Don asked if anyone was interested in attending the social media training on the 19th. There will be additional workshops if members want to attend but are unable to attend the one this month. Don also mentioned that there will be an event for Hillary Clinton on Sep 22 in Ellicott City being organized by her point person in Maryland. Corynne will attend the state party meeting on September 29th. The Sun is doing an article on the potential name change for the JJ dinner. The Sun contacted Don, Anita, and Frank for comment. Secretary's Report July & August minutes were approved, with the motion made by Frank and seconded by Charles and was passed unanimously. Treasurer's Report Corynne reported that the checking account balance is $ 5,915.76. Everything is paid/current. She asked that we try to get as many checks for the breakfast as possible to her by October 8. Otherwise, Anita will hold them. Mitch made a motion that the report be accepted; Tom seconded; passed unanimously. Club Reports CC Dems: September 15 is the first meeting. Members of the Westminster County Council will attend. Laura O'Callaghan, a member of the Board of Elections is scheduled to speak at October's meeting. Paul Milton is scheduled to speak at the November meeting. South Carroll Club: No report Committee Reports Local Politics: Tom reported on the Board of Education meeting which focused on the recommendation to close five schools primarily because of declining student population. Dick Weaver was the only commissioner in attendance. Annapolis: Tabled. Communications: Mark has been ÒtweakingÓ the website. Kohn charged $300 to fix some problemsÑprimarily calendar issues. Our website may have been hacked. We need to recruit LTE writers. Events: Kumar Barve and Jamie Raskin are attending the breakfast which is October 24 at 9AM at the Best Western. Tickets are $40 pp or$35pp for a table of eight. We need to make sure this is on the website and publicized on social media. An eblast will be sent to our list. There will be a second Republican debate watch party at Johansson's on September 16. The first Democratic debate is on October 13th. We will again meet at Johansson's. Blog: Tabled. Old Business Brochure: Dorothy will finish working on the brochure. We will have it printed by a union shop. Fallfest: All slots are filled. Still working on getting literature from candidates. We will need to have the brochure available. Intern duties: There was discussion as two what we could ask the intern to do. The following suggestions were made: research issues, manage a headquarters, manage volunteers, got to Annapolis & meet with legislators. Ask her what she is interested in doing! The point was brought up, however, that: #1, she is studying overseas for the semester, and #2, she is from Pennsylvania so has no knowledge of Maryland politics. Rural MD PAC: Tabled. Don has not received any communication. JJ dinner name change: There was a great deal of discussion, but the decision was made to postpone and discuss in more detail at the October meeting. Members were asked to bring suggestions. Tom made a motion to change the name, set a timeline, and announce the new name at the December get-together. Charles seconded. Bylaws: Changes were reviewed. There will always be the option to add a corresponding secretary if it is decided one is needed. Mitch will send the revised by-laws to the CCDCC, state party, and Board of Elections. New Business ÒWant to be a Delegate to the convention?Ó It was agreed that you have to be connected to actually get to be a delegate. There are channels one must go through. State Party wants us to hold an informational session for people who want to be delegates. Number of Democratic Presidential Debates: The Republicans are having 20 debates; Democrats are only holding 6Ñand two are after New Hampshire. What is our stance as a central committee regarding the limited debates? Is this something for us as a committee to be concerned about? Ask Greg what he thinks. Corynne will ask Mollie Byron. Invite CCT's publisher to a meeting?: It was decided that it would be better to ask for a meeting at the CCT office. We will wait and see what Milton says at the club meeting in November.
