Minutes for the June 11th meeting of the Carroll County Democratic Central Committee Attendees: Corynne C., Don W. (chair), Mitch E., Zach H., Frank R., Dorothy S., Anita R., Guests: Joan McGrath Meeting called to order by Don W. at 7:05pm, and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Chair's Report: The Chair's voice was not fully functioning for this meeting, so he attempted to keep his remarks brief. The Westminster municipal elections went very well as more progressive voices in Mona Becker, Greg Pecoraro, Robert Wack were elected. The Frederick Dem. Central Committee JJ Dinner was attended by Don and Corynne. It was a very successful event, and the speakers were high quality in Chris Van Hollen, Kumar Barve, and Chris Matthews' wife, Kathleen (who is running for Congress in the 8th district also). Corynne also attended the Martin O'Malley presidential announcement, she noted it was very fun and interesting to be a part of. Don noted that many campaign teams have been contacting the CCDCC for a multitude of reasons including endorsements which the committee cannot give until after the primaries. The Rural Maryland Democratic Summit is coming up next week; each member owes $35 to the treasury. It's pretty much one day including a reception the night before but a lot of big Democratic dignitaries are coming out to it. Don attended the executive committee meeting. The upcoming Summit was much talked about. Bob Fenity, the party executive director, is retiring (and joining the O'Malley campaign). They are attempting to find his replacement. Neil Ridgely resigned from the CCDCC. The Chair expressed regret, and that the committee certainly loses an important local voice. He also expressed the hope that the committee will move along, and move forward best it can. He resigned based off of an action of the Chair that at this point wasn't fruitful to go into, according to Don W. The incoming intern Kathy O'Donnell is going abroad in the fall, and the committee will need to discuss her role going forward. This will likely be revisited in the coming meetings. Joan McGrath joined the committee for the meeting this evening. She contacted the Chair through his LinkedIn page, and she is looking to get involved as a member. She is also currently looking to get published as a historical research writer and believed that is an asset of hers. Frank R. made a motion to bring Joan McGrath on the committee, 2nd by Dorothy S., and passed by unanimous vote. Frank R. submitted the May minutes in Zach H.'s absence from the last meeting, and they passed with unanimous vote. Corynne C. reported the CCDCC has $6,065.76 in the bank, with a few pending checks after the JJ Dinner, which accounted for the increase from last month. Most of the important expenses for the year are paid off. The report passed with a unanimous vote. The Chair thanked Anita R. for her role in the JJ Dinner, she expressed elation that everyone showed up that was asked to come. Zoa Barnes sent the committee an email about an O'Malley fundraiser on June 20. Feel free to go to fundraisers as an individual not representing the central committee. The Carroll County Dems are having their picnic on the last Sunday in July at the Lions Club in Union Mills. The South Carroll Democratic Club is having its flag waving on Sunday on the corners of 26 and 32. Local politics report: The commissioners aren't doing too much right now, and the ethics issue is just being brought up by the commissioners. Annapolis report: Not much coming out of the state capital, according to Dorothy S. Communications: Everyone should share the Facebook posts, and keep up with the social media and make it current, including the website. Anita R. reported that at the JJ Dinner there were 84 tickets paid for, and the profit was 15 dollars a ticket, silent auction yielded $1475, the raffle was $129, and $4340 came from the program book. A potential name change for the committee's JJ Dinner will be something to consider for the JJ going forward, but the committee has a bit of time left to decide that. Maybe a survey at the next meeting to determine if people think Jefferson or Jackson needs to be removed from the dinner's label. The committee definitely wants to have a booth at FallFest, and should send a check ASAP to corral one. It was discussed that maybe a summertime cookout, or another CCDCC event would drum up some interest for the summer. A laid back event would be best. Don W. concluded that we definitely should look at the by-laws and see if we need to revisit some of the districting and ways that we conduct appointing members. The Chair concluded the meeting at 8:43pm. Respectfully, Zach Hands Recording Secretary
