Carroll County Democratic Central Committee Meeting Minutes February 21st, 2013 Committee members in attendance Jason Officer, Don West, Corynne Courpas, Neil Ridgely, Jackie Jones, Mary Ellis, and Jim Gregory. Other attendees Lowell Jones, Wendy Raith, John Rodman, Michele Johnson, and Jim Rowe. Meeting was held in the Large Meeting Room of the Westminster Branch of the CCPL and was called to order by Jackie Jones, Chair, at 7:04 pm. Chair's Report none Special Speaker Michele Johnson, Democratic candidate for CC Board of Commissioners, District #4, in the 2010 election was our guest speaker. She spent about an hour talking about her local race, what she felt she did well, what she could have used more help with, and her recommendations for how best the CCDCC could help candidates in the future. Her major recommendations: Seek strong, qualified candidates early Support those candidates Stay in touch with those candidates throughout the process Offer and attend a Candidates School Give access to MD VAN and other e-resources Write LTEs and donate to campaigns CCDCC money should to GOTV, not to individual candidates Secretary's Report January's minutes were sent to CCDCC members via e-mail. A motion to approve minutes was made by Jason O., 2nd by Jim G., vote unanimous. Treasurer's Report Treasurer's report was sent out via e-mail to the members and showed a current balance of $3,920.85. Motion to approve report by Don W., 2nd by Jim G., vote unanimous. Club Reports none Committee Reports Neil R. reported on Local Politics, including the hiring of Lynn Mallick as Commissioner Frazier's special assistant, Frazier's missing mileage and expense reports, Rothschild has been authorizing her reports, Smart Growth Forum in Annapolis, ruling on redacting email addresses, Rothschild and Frazier 'living' in Annapolis, 'around the County in a daze', the second leg of the economic relief package and the education budget. There were no Communication, Fundraising, or Grassroots/Outreach reports. Old Business The 2nd Annual CCDCC Breakfast will be on Saturday, March 16th, starting at 9 am at the Best Western Conference Center in Westminster. The special guest will be Heather Mizeur (D Ð Montgomery County). Mary E. reported on the phone bank for the breakfast. New Business Corynne C. made a motion that the CCDCC should have a booth again at Hampstead Day on May 18th, 2013, 2nd Jason O., vote unanimous. Jim G. requested that there be a report at our next meeting outlining a schedule of events for this coming year that we will attend. Jason said he would chair an events committee and bring a list of events to our next meeting. Corynne C. gave a report from the Election Committee meeting, including identifying candidates, filling all the slots, and how to support them. Announcements The next regular meeting for the CCDCC will be Thursday, March 21th, 2013, starting at 7 pm, in the Large Meeting Room of the Westminster Branch of the CCPL. The CCDCC regrets to announce that Dane Menges has decided to leave the Committee. We wish Dane the best of luck in his future endeavors. Meeting adjourned at 8:59 pm.
